What do all of you think of Keith Olbermann's "WTF? Moment?"
He just started it, to keep the attention of those who were shutting his show off after the "Worst Persons In The World." ;-)

1. It's sort of a super duper "Worst Person in the World"
with more time spent on the obvious hypocrisy.

I like it.

2. I liked the one on Miss California and her ignorance of....
what the 1st amendment actually says.

Today's was about Texas seceeding and the actual costs and consequences. It was pretty funny.

12. They're starting to be a favorite
I'd I've been trying to remember to flip over in time to catch them, missed today's.

Somebody's got to point out the sheer absurdity of the crap the broadcast news has been reporting lately.

8. Wow. So does he do the WPITW and the WTF Moment before or after he does his almost DAILY
Edited on Fri May-15-09 11:32 PM by smalll
(it seems to us non-fans) "special comments" when he goes all Howard Beale on various asses?

Look, if you want to go Howard Beale every now and then, OK, but on a daily basis, it loses all its shock and authenticity, and the daily Beale impersonator's curtain is drawn back, and we all see the little man with tiny shoulders and a huge gut who is really just a semi-intelligent sports commentator who didn't even actually do anything in sports except be a towel manager in high school who happened to parlay what passes for a semi-articulateness these days into political commentary so that he can date girls in their early 20s by getting up on MSNBC on a daily basis to demand that various miscreants "straightaway resign."

Remember Miss Precious Perfect!

16. WTF isn't the same as Special Comments
Except for the one about his Mom, KO's WTF's have been solidly laced with humor. The Special Comments are his expressions of outrage, which are only done when he feels like it (as he says in interviews). You're comparing apples and oranges.

If you don't like KO's show, that's a matter of personal choice. But the unnecessary personal attacks on someone who has literally risked his life (victim of the UnaFreeper's fake anthrax attack, death threats, etc.) to speak truth to power...that's really uncalled for. :(

And what's the big deal, if he's dating someone in her 20's? Sure beats Billo The Clown, sexually harassing a younger female producer, and having to settle out of court for $10 mil. It doesn't bother me if people are of different ages, or races, straight or gay. If they love each other, that's the important thing. :)

Also, don't forget that Rachel Maddow wouldn't have her own show, either, had KO not lobbied hard on her behalf. We need shows like hers, and "Countdown", to offset all the right-wing cable news programs.

Whether one likes him personally or not, those of us on the left owe KO one hell of a lot of thanks, for putting left-leaning news on the cable TV map. Just because a Dem is in the White House doesn't mean it's time to throw KO under the bus. People like him and Rachel are still very much needed, to keep holding powerful people's feet to the fire. :patriot:

22. You're exaggerating. He doesn't do Special Comments nearly every day.
And the reason he doesn't is because he doesn't want them to be less special.

If you're a non-fan, you're already biased against him, so you're just not paying attention.

"Really just a semi-intelligent sports commentator"? Hardly. He's a damn genius who was underemployed as a sports commentator, is more like it. And he was not a "towel manager in high school"--he covered sports on the radio.

His taste in women I'll never understand, but I suspect he's less emotionally mature than he is mentally mature...which is terribly typical of many men, I'm afraid.

Where are you from anyway, Olbermann Watch?

His commentaries have often got past the shiny objects and highlighted deeper points in an argument.

It also has an element of humor in it :) which is also good in discussions. Sometimes showing the sheer ridiculousness of something breaks the spin surrounding it.

yea!!!

Baby! ;)

Edit: on the down side, wtf, is an acronym for swearing, which as another poster said, is not the best, since it probably offends more people then it adds to things. But that may be opinion.

And I truly felt Keith looked uncomfortable doing it the first night. I'm doubting it is something he came up with.

27. Looks that way to me, too
The only time he didn't look happy to be saying (or ALMOST saying) it was when he was debunking that hideous rumor about how he took time off because he was fighting with Rachel -- when, of course, he was taking time off after his mother died.

I really don't know how he got through that segment without puking. I know *I* damn near puked. :(

28. The humor on Countdown is great
But it's the emotionalism that keeps me coming back. In this heartless society, it's rare to see someone with the cojones to show his feelings.

And no, I don't count that moron Glenn Beck and his phony "I love this country" tears. :puke:

30. I think it was because of his choice of comedian.
Christian Finnigan and Paul Thompkins are funny in small doses, but the semi-scripted interview sucked.

Now, if he had someone come in and just have a real conversation with him, like Rachel does with Kent Jones, then it would be much better. Someone who has a tad more pundit bona-fides. Like a Sam Seder or Marc Maron. Actually, thinking of Maron, he has the same sort of nervous energy that Richard Lewis does, and he does good on Keith's show when he's on.

In any case, the WTF title has got to go. Aside from the fact that some people probably get offended by it, it ruins it when he can't even actually say it. He can't even say it and bleep it.
