Mayor Bloomberg's campaign has spent whopping $18.7 million to date on re-re-election
By Adam Lisberg

Mayor Bloomberg's campaign team says he isn't trying to buy the election - but new records show he has put an $18.7million down payment on a bid to acquire a third term.

The self-made billionaire has poured $15.6 million into his campaign in the past two months, spending millions on advertising, printing, consultants, dozens of staffers, rent and office supplies.

The new total is 55% higher than Bloomberg had spent at the same point four years ago - with almost six months to go before Election Day.

And it dwarfs what any of his three rivals expect to spend all year.

Controller William Thompson raised $83,561 in the past two months and spent $352,754. Through March, he had raised $3,571,181 and spent $1,399,841.

"Mike Bloomberg is spending almost $19 million to try to convince New Yorkers that they need four more years of higher taxes, rising unemployment, record homelessness and overcrowded schools," said Thompson spokeswoman Anne Fenton.

"Bill Thompson is building a network of supporters in all five boroughs because he is the candidate who understands the unprecedented challenges facing all New Yorkers."

Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn/Queens), who is on the fence about running, raised just $30,725 in the past two months for a total of $5,068,796. He spent $143,773 in the past two months for a total of $963,433.

2. Thompson is correct, Bloomberg's an abysmal mayor; but....

>>>"Mike Bloomberg is spending almost $19 million to try to convince New Yorkers that they need four more years of higher taxes, rising unemployment, record homelessness and overcrowded schools," said Thompson spokeswoman Anne Fenton.>>>

... there's little chance a relative no-name like Comptroller Thompson is going to be able to mount a serious challenge. Too much money spread around and the ideological monopoly of the local media is nearly complete.

Neither Thompson nor Weiner will be heard above the noi$$$e machine.

What our party needs is a *heavyweight*. Gravitas. ( No, not Caroline Kennedy.)

5. It would be good to see him go and take some of his paranoiac overreaching with him
Many of us not from the northeast part of the country realize than NYC is far from civilized, always seems to be on the verge of imploding, and think the nation should consider cutting its loses there.

6. You're not thinking of "sawing off the eastern seaboard....
>>>>and think the nation should consider cutting its loses there.>>>>>

... and letting it ( us) float out to sea" as another famous southwesterner wanted to do.... once upon a time?

7. Not at all, its just that the NE centric view of the MSM and pols gets tiring
Big cities go green by dumping their crap and pollution somewhere else. Since I am somewhere else, it tends to piss me off.

3. Politicians buy airtime for campaign commercials from TV channels.
Bloomberg buys the fucking channels.

New York City will get a new mayor when Bloomberg decides to leave.

4. So what else is new?
He basically bought the previous 2 elections, outspending any of his rivals by staggering percentages.
