Who should be on the Commission to investigate the torture questions?
And how many should be on it?

I think it should be 5 people. With 3 people on a commission, it would be much easier to manipulate if one person had that intent?

Is Warren Rudman still alive? He's the first person they look for when they need a whitewash? I think maybe they could get a couple of those US Attorneys that were fired by Bush? That lady out in California and the guy from NM, maybe? Or would they be too partisan??

However, it is becoming more and more clear that we will need a Commission to investigate these charges? It cannot be done in the House or Senate. It is too partisan at this time. But, even Frank Rich, in tomorrow's NY Times is calling it a necessity.

I am hoping that this is the route that Nancy Pelosi takes. It's not really about who was sworn to secrecy, it's about who may have committed crimes, perhaps crimes against humanity?

2. I don' want a commission
Unless it's stated right off that "if" there is enough evidence of a crime, by anyone in congress all the way up the ladder to Bush and Cheney, those people "will" be prosecuted, or if any member of congress is found to have helped Bush out, no matter what party they are in, they would be asked to resign. I don't want a commission that has no power to take this to the courts if need be!

especially if they are also investigating other issues of the Bush Administration.

4. How about which Democrats should not be on the commission?
I vote Lee Hamilton out. He did a piss poor job with the 9/11 Commission.

The whole point of this storm about Pelosi is that her critics want her to be embarrassed and stop supporting a Truth Commission or any sort of examination of what happened. But she's not. She still says there should be an investigation. Her critics still want the book closed. That says it all. She'll have to stand or fall with the results of an actual investigation. Her opponents on this are simply risible hypocrites.

11. Pelosi may just be pissed off enough to create this Commission...
and it cannot be a whitewash. We know that torture happened. We just don't know to what extent. How many died while being tortured? Who gave the orders? And the old saw, "Tell us that al Qaeda is connected to Saddam Hussein or we're gonna drown your sorry ass again..."

10. Rudman is still alive.
So is Hagel. There are others, I'm sure.

I wonder how many 'commissions' or investigations of various kinds we'll end up wanting/needing. Seems that every day I/we think of one or more. Repugs are really falling apart, and we all could spend a lot of time and effort trying to pin everything down, for the good of the country.

torture - CIA - cheney - rummy - abrams
Pre 9/11; 9/11 > Iraq
Plame
U.S. Attorneys
etc

27. Unfortunately there was a whole lot more to Watergate than ever came out.
E. Howard Hunt - one of the infamous plumbers - was up to his eyeballs in the demise of JFK.

Edited on Sun May-17-09 07:52 PM by flyarm
It did not come close..not by a city mile! And because it didn't many of those criminals were back with both Bush Juntas!

Look the CIA was run by Poter Goss..who was involved with Barry Seal and Ferrie...and Hunt and the worst of the Black opps..and drug running...all the damn criminals! Many involved with the JFK murder!

22. Formally request the World Court to handle the torture investigation as
it is too close to home and too inflammatory for us, U.S. to do a reasonable job. Look at the way the 9/11 investigation was done. We do NOT want the same thing to happen to the Torture investigations. We need to get the guilty put away for a very long time or executed. They will not be going away on their own.

The problem is the lack of leadership on this topic from Pelosi, Reid and Obama.
