A question...
I'm wondering, 20 years in the future, when we as a people view those who opposed gay marriage in the same light as we do the people who opposed interracial marriage and the civil rights movement in general today. What will people like Carrie Prejean tell their children and grandchildren when they find out about their affiliation with the the anti-gay marriage movement and ask how they could believe such nonsense?

1. Same way I treated my grandparents. You love them despite their unfathomable prejudices.

2. The same thing the bigots from back then tell their children. Nothing
- they will not talk about it. Where were you during that time Daddy? Well, honey, I was too busy trying to keep ends together to have much to do with that stuff.

3. She'll still say the same things.
Do you think interracial marriage and dating go without comment today? You're naive. Or you're not listening to what people say under their breath or in public.

Did you see the new Star Trek movie? Did you notice the love affair between Spock and Uhura? Did you listen to what some people were whispering out in the audience? Although science fiction fans like to portray themselves as open-minded and flexible, a large percentage of them are conservatives and bitter people. And they were muttering anger at this pairing, not because Spock was a Vulcan and theoretically wasn't driven to mate until seven years has passed, but because it was a white man falling for a black woman.

The same mutters occur with gay couples - those few that dare to show their faces without worries of being lynched. And they will continue, even IF gay marriage is made legal or acceptable or even a non-killing offense.
