Texicans on DU: If Kay Bailey Hutchinson vs. Rick Perry in GOP primary--who wins?
in your humble opinion.

And who is the leading Democrat running for Governor in TX and can he/she win?

1. Will the primary involve guns?
If so, KBH wins by default...Well, unless RP ducks his head and uses his hair as armor

Oh wait...I'm not from Texas.

26. Flaky is being polite.
I had a chance to work with that self aggrandizing jackass blowhard.

I was shooting a movie and in between takes, some guy would just go on and on talking about himself.

Finally, I turn to the guy next to me and I ask, "who is the pontificating bullshit artist?"

the guy responds in bewilderment, "why that's kinky friedman, he's a Texas treasure!"

I responded by saying, "then the texas treasure chest is filled with fools gold". He gave me a sour look and walked away.

bottom line: if it isn't all about kinky, he doesn't want anything to do with it. The guy, when it comes to politics, is a high functioning moron.

I would love to see him get into office, get the crap completely scared out of him then have him recalled. That would be a rightful fitting end to that ego maniac airbag.

7. Somone on a TEXDEM blog made an interesting suggestion

Last week, Senator Cornyn stated that he believes Hutchinson will retire very soon - thus opening the seat to a new Perry appointee. Possible outcomes:

a) Perry will appoint a super wingnut as senator, allowing Hutchinson plenty of time to build a proper campaign against Goodhair in 2010.

b) Perry will appoint himself as senator, leaving the door wide open for Hutchinson to win gubernatorial election in 2010.

As for a Democratic candidate for 2010's election, Houston Mayor Bill White, has spent a lot of money towards the goal of winning the governorship in 2010.

EDIT ADD: I was wrong. White is looking to run for US Senator.

10. Do you think White has a chance?

It's taken me awhile to become acclimated to Texas's peculiar brand of politics. I've been here a year and a half, and I'm still getting thrown curves.

And I come from Oklahoma, which has its own brandy of insanity.

I've been presented with an opportunity to do some work for White's campaign when it gets rolling full force, but I'm just not real sure about him. I live in Houston, and I'm not entirely pleased with house this city is managed. But, that's where the weirdness of Texas politics comes in. I knew who was responsible for screwups in OKC. The way responsibility is divided down here seems to obscure responsibility, which I've taken to believing is the entire point.

12. Actually, I'm wrong
White is gunning to run as a US senator against whoever the pub is come 2010.

Sorry.

As for governor, what Texas needs is for the Democratic party to stop treating Texas as a lost cause.

17. Senator ...

Yeah, I was all confused on that myself.

An acquaintance, who is responsible for drawing me in to local politics, has made me more aware than I wanted to be about how the Democratic party as a whole treats Texas campaigns. Being from Oklahoma, I have trouble sympathizing a great deal. People wonder how some idiot like Inhoff keeps getting elected. Well, his opponents tend to run their campaigns without enough money even to run a decent amount of newspaper advertising, forget television. A lot of people go into the polling place not even knowing a Democrat is running.

But I can certainly empathize. You'd think, given its importance due to size and concentration of potential campaign dollars, the DNC or at least the DCCC would take some notice ... but no.

Sad.

18. I hear ya
Most of my relatives are Okies. :hi:

You're not kidding about people not knowing there's a Democratic opponent. I've had more than one tussle with DCCC/DSCC donation callers when I ask them what their organizations are doing to support Dem candidates in my state. They literally tell me "There's no point in wasting our money."

I tell them, "If that's the case, then there's no point in calling me. I will donate to selected candidates directly."

My hope is that Rick Noriega runs for Governor in 2010.

24. It's not an old joke, It's been all over TV recently.
Gov Perry has hinted at it. Joe Barton is in favor of it. Keith Olbermann reported on the ridiculousness of it. I plead guilty to the regional bigotry. When I lived in Austin I looked with disdain upon people from Dallas.

15. We're Texans, not Texicans
That term became obsolete after the Texas Revolution. But thanks to the National Party treating Texas as a losing cause for decades, we have no good, exciting Democratic candidates for governor, except David Van Os, who may or may not be running for anything in 2010. Perhaps if the National Party actually wanted to win in Texas, they'd stop draining us of our money, talent, and manpower.

19. Willie, but since he is not running...more than likely KBH.
Besides the gov post here is mostly ceremonial. Look at the chimp. Certainly being the gov didn't help prepare him for being the potus.

Peace,

The only dems are Bill White (Houston mayor) and John Sharp (former comptroller). Both are good, but so far the race hasn't heated up.
