Poll question: How old are you?
Edited on Sun May-17-09 07:19 PM by armyowalgreens
I've been wondering the general age of DUers for a while because I feel that at the age of 19, I am not a fair representation of the population.

So, how old are you you old fogies?

1. You're a fair representation of your age cohort
and have as much a right to be here as any of us.

While life experience confers a lot of benefits, so does youthful exuberance and the ability to ask why ingrained patterns of thinking should exist.

We need young folks here to shake us up sometimes.

Oh, please, they're out there
They just have better things to do than hanging out in front of a computer screen, like sports, clubs, and getting laid.

Once they put on the ball and chain and have a kid or two, they'll be here too.

ah... that felt good.

anyhow, good poll question! :applause:
it's weird that I'm about double your age, but as I've learned, the people I thought were old, really weren't that old, because when I'm nearly 40 they'll just be in their late 50's and 60's and that's not much different, but when you're in school and not full grown everyone over 25 seems 'old'. ha

14. I'm in the semi-younger crowd, and am always amazed at how older people are so sexist -
racism isn't an issue, Much. Many people claim to be homo-fine, but you realize it's just a political stance and many haven't ever met a gay person. You can tell by the way posts are worded. But women on this site... wow! Many times I feel like I'm back in the stone age, Victorian era, and can understand the backlash in society in general. Hugely anti-sex.

25. It's like this on DU.

There are a lot of older people on here who have fought for gay rights, womanly rights, issues of color. But mostly the older crowd is just working off some talking platform thing.

On the topic of women's rights, oh MY GOD. I've never seen such 50s opinions. Maybe early 60s. All women are victims of men. We get beaten and have no recourse. Endless threads about how everything a man does is abusive. eyes:

I like men. I want to live and have sex with one.

On the topic of gay rights, everyone is in tune with accepting gay people, but on DU it's mostly in theory: I'm not sure how many DUers actually know someone who is gay. I think it's limited.

As for black and white, well, we sag the world map. Blech.

39. Well, Dearie, If You Don't Like What You Hear From the Women on this Site
Then you better be prepared for a lot of disappointment as the innocence and smugness fall off your infant soul.

It's a report from reality, by those who have survived it thus far. Get ready to deal with it. Yes, things have changed a lot since the 50's, but only grudgingly, and with periodic backsliding. And equality is nowhere in sight, and not likely to be unless swine flu wipes out one sex entirely.

66. Beautiful. I think we all have something hanging around from our
youth that we cannot throw out. Get this, I have 2 pair of Wrangler knee length bermuda shorts(with leather back pocket label). They are about size "one thigh". I tried them on for the fun of it a few weeks ago and could pull them up to my knees. I'm only 128 pounds now but it sure isn't in the same places.

Since they are in style again, I really wish I could wear them and tell everyone I still fit in the clothes I wore in high school and college.

Oh well, Sure wish I had my Poodle skirt.

A 3 year old and 4 year old will do that to you. Plus my husband works two jobs, I am finishing getting a CDA to teach preschool. We are both exhausted. My parents are 61 and seem to be having more fun then us. LOL. Hey, my Mom always says she gets to send them home at the end of the day. She gets all the love. There is nothing harder then your 4 year old telling you she is angry with you because you said no to her. I have a feeling it only gets harder. My Mom says I was LOVELY at 15.
