In over 15 years in the Bay Area, they only got "bad" above about 5.8 ... Loma Prieta being the one I remember the most. At 7.1, I was near the epicenter (working at IBM's Santa Teresa Labs) and it was a helluva ride.

you can be taking a crap, sleeping etc. and it just happens. there is a certain excitement though. for those who lived here long enough and have experienced them it's probably not as scary as it would be to others.

as long as nobody gets hurt, i don't really mind them.

I now live in a low EQ region. I've felt one trembler. At first I thought someone was moving a chest across floor upstairs, but we had no room above us. More sound than fury.

I've been in one overseas where my army bunk moved across the floor. It was a real knock. Another happened while I was asleep. I didn't wake up, but my mates in our bay said I sat up and said "Another fucking earthquake." I laid back down and was sound asleep.

41. Only scary stuff here is cold and snow,

and as long as you're dressed sensibly, drive sensibly or stay off the roads, and the power doesn't go out, you're OK. Some areas are getting more flooding as climate changes. I worry we'll start getting ice storms like the mid-Atlantic does now. But no earthquakes or hurricanes, tornadoes are quite rare.

BIG HIT here...my dog and my friend's dog ~~ both shook up. My friend's dog hid in the house under shelves that hold heavy model trains. My dog ran around the house barking her butt off and is now hiding under my desk.

38. Hollywood/Silverlake area here.

This big old apartment building swayed from left to right as I heard fissures running along the walls with that awful crackling sound plaster and brick makes during a quake. The cat on my lap jumped, ducked and tried to find a hiding place in the kitchen. Time gets extended, seconds last hypernaturally long, and my heart beats like a freaked-out drum.

Thank godness, no one was hurt, apparently. All the best to you and our other fellow Angelenos.

...I am Palos Verdes Penn area. This is the first time since the Sylmar quake when I lived in Upland that I have had anything fall of the walls. One picture ~~ but it did not break. Eyeglasses fell off a counter and a few books off a shelf. Other than that, all OK here. You OK, too?

I am in the South Shore area of Pedro just off of Anchovy street. I too had one of my pictures (actually its a piece of art work) fall off its wall hanger. It didn't break because I have fall arrester thin cables on all my wall hangings just for this reason.. :)

Now they have it listed on the KCAL 9 as a 4.7 shake ~~ was at 5.0.
