BIG Earthquake just now in L.A.
Man, I was rocking and rolling in East L.A. for about a minute. First, shaking, then like a wave. Zowie - that's the biggest one I've felt in years.

1. glad you're OK
You just reminded me that my biggest nightmare didn't happen--that was that you guys would be struck by an earthquake while bush was in charge.

I would've guessed more like a 6.0, but I'm very near the epicenter.

I know, 'cause up until a couple of years ago, I commuted every day from Rancho Kook to L.A. and back. Three hours a day, easy.

8. Very widespread
From LAX - through Jane Harman's district (sorry, couldn't resist), through entire L.A. basin, through downtown, and I'm up near Pasadena. Just tried calling a friend in Long Beach - "Sorry, all circuits are busy now." IRVINE? WOW.

Wierdest thing - I was kinda freaking out, and my 2 cats and chihuahua slept through it. Now that's the sign of a clear conscience.

18. this one may be a different fault
Newport Inglewood fault is the name I think. Did a lot of damage to LB in 1933.

Hasn't had a lot of activity, but has the capability of HUGE damage because it runs along the highly populated coast. (Think of the 405 freeway from LAX to John Wayne for those familiar with the area.)

15. felt it in Hollywood
felt more like a 3 or a 4. Got a very noticable shake, but nowhere near as dramatic as Northridge or Whittier

My wife was doing the dishes and didn't even notice.

Neither of our dogs were fazed in the least

22. Helluva ride here in Whittier.
I called it slip-strike earlier, but that was wrong. More like a strike-slip, if there is such a thing. That wavy shit at the end was really cool after it stopped being really scary...lol.

Two things are clear: we don't need no stinkin' aftershocks and dang, lots of DUers in SoCal.
Now I gotta watch Barack at Notre Dame since am still sleepless.
