Why is this veto not passing the 'scent' test?

Why am I having trouble seeing it as little more than a dog and pony show, being performed for Americans in order to build some sense of false confidence in a Congress which is allowing more of our money to be ciphoned from our country into a war, which is not only promoting more death but making those profiting from this war much richer?

I don't seem to understand why Bush and Company would want to veto a bill that essentially gives them everything they want?

Can someone tell me how this bill won't keep the killing/war machine in full force and stand to further bankrupt our country?

How many military bases are there now?

And the Congress is talking withdrawal while we are pouring more money into the problem while our ground troops/ie. KIDS are being neglected, used and abused?

Why does this not make sense? Are we being lied to yet again?

We know what happened to Germany from perpetual war. It collapsed their economy. It collapsed everything around them.

I can't see how in any way the "Democrats" gave us a victory on this one. However it does seem they want us to think they did.

How is that bill in any way beneficial to us the American citizen?

Our nation and our infrastructure is being totally neglected, and it seems to be coming from both parties now. Or at least the elite in Washington are taking our money and sending it where they want to.

5. You can't bargain with a mad man

He's so out of touch with reality, it's scary. What's even scarier, are the unwavering Bushies who are labeling Congress the villain in this funding war. That's not to say I think it's a perfect bill. As the thread starter pointed out, why should any funding be granted, and well, for that we have to go back to the half a trillion dollar question: why was this war started in the first place? But, regardless of your position on funding, certainly a rational person wouldn't consider a request for some kind of planned conclusion to the occupation an unreasonable request. Right?

Seriously, I'd like to meet the man who is so self righteous he doesn't believe he should be subject to conditions when requesting a hundred billion dollars from the US fucking Congress.

The little twit can't figure out how to tie his shoes, how does he think he's gonna get out of this?

I was watching some History today, LBJ and Civil Rights to be precise. At one point, it was mentioned that if it were not for the fiasco in Vietnam, Johnson would have gone down as a near-great to great president. His Civil Rights stances and his attempt to stamp out poverty as well as attendance to the infrastructure all came back to haunt him in his final years. He looked horrible when leaving the WH for the last time, and near death at his speech at the LBJ Library, (in fact he died little more than a month later).

The reason I brought this up is because it parallels what is happening now. If bush could find himself in a position to leave Iraq, history would still see him as a failure. He has bankrupted the Treasury, he has added a greater burden to those who work for a living, he has turned virtually every nation on earth into a potential enemy. Never before, and I hope and pray, never again, will we see this ineptitude in the WH. The rich got vastly richer, and the nation pays a price in blood for his orgy of death.

If he fell overboard, I'd be sorely tempted to toss him an anvil.

We have to mobilize locally and work together and quit looking to Washington.
