right down to the last line, where he turned Newt's little snark - "Next time maybe you'll listen," to which Stewart replied, holding up the book, "Is listening in here?" And Newt, after a barely perceptible hesitation, said "Yes, it is," to which Jon, in a gleeful, sing-song voice, "No, it isn't. I read it."

It would appear that Newt's recent conversion to Roman Catholicism hasn't taken. He completely blew it on that pesky Commandment about "not bearing false witness." I wonder if he know that means "You're not supposed to lie"?

Probably not.

The idea of Newt Gingrich - the thrice-divorced serial adulterer - writing a book called "How To Live A Successful Life" is so absurd, I'm coming very close to just going somewhere to live in a cave and then just die.

I cannot take much more of this stupidity. I really am at my wits' end ................................

12. It's a comfort to know I'm not alone,

and thank you for reminding me. But, I still want to cry tonight.

The concept of authoritarians, the kinds of strange behavior we've seen, has, I am convinced, a huge psycho-sexual component. Just as I've found in blind followers of organized religion, there is a set of behaviors and responses rooted in deeply-buried, terribly powerful sexual situations encountered in their young years. That's what's behind so much of this torture business that we're now find out about - I have absolutely no trouble imagining people like Cheney and Yoo and Wolfowitz and Bybee and Addington and the others waiting for the written reports, the photographs, and then locking themselves in their private bathrooms and finally achieving the release they so achingly desire.

Honestly, I believe this. Sex makes the world go 'round, as we all know (if we're very lucky), and I see this motivation behind things that otherwise make no sense.

And it's the hardest set of behavioral patterns to break down.......................

I think you're in close contact with reality. Damn, all I can say is I'm so glad to be able to be a part of this forum. It's people like you who make me willing and able to continue living on this planet.

I'm 52, single, and have not been on a date since 1985. I'm not ashamed of that, although in this society that is something to be ashamed of. I didn't want to impose my will on another human being. I had my girlfriends. But I didn't want to go down that road. Instead, I went on a real estate journey. I owned farms, ranches, houses, and loved being with my cats along the way. I think people don't spend enough time with themselves. The real reason I didn't want to impose my life on another person was that I haven't been very happy. I'm probably happier than most people. But I am not in denial. I want beauty. Which is mostly why I am unhappy. Try finding beauty in 2009. Good luck. But my point was, until I achieve a consciousness that enables me to uplift the spirit of another, I would prefer to not work out my problems via a relationship. How many divorces are there? Oops. I got off on a rant here. I could go on, but I think I'll get on the tractor and clean up yesterday's bonfire. And the crows are out coasting around in the air.

By the way, if your post was wrong, there wouldn't be seven billion people on this poor planet. It's the number one force on this planet, and it's forbidden to even discuss it. Humans are pathetic. That's why hearing what you have to say is so important. I can go through this day knowing that I'm not alone.

he was softer in the 1st segment, but he didn't pull punches in the 2nd. that was not a mamby pamby few minutes. i think stewart was enjoying the mental fisticuffs cause he was winning.

There was so much material Jon could have referenced but did not. Newt has a long history of remarks that he should have been asked about. However if Jon wants to get guests from all aspects of America he has to treat all his guests with a certain dignity whether deserved or not.
