Why would anyone working in the Public Sector...
...working for a City, State, of Federal entity, relate with, register, and/or vote with the GOP?

There are those that do.
I have 19 years of proud Public Service and also I am the Chief Steward for our bargaining unit.

It boggles my mind that coworkers listen to AM radio hate mongers, FAUX Noise, and claim that Republicans, "stand up for the little guy".

However, now that cuts to jobs and retirement benefits have come I find a perfect opportunity to remind them that they should be thrilled that their "cut government" and anti-union politics are coming to pass.
It causes a pause.
When some rail against socialism (as if they know what it means) I remind them from where their paychecks are derived.
This causes another pause.

Like Bob Dylan said, "When you gonna wake up...and strengthen the things that remain?"

1. Brother you don't have to tell me.....I was a local VP.
I've heard them rail against Unions & spout GOP talking points but when you remind them they actually belong to a Union...its the sounds of crickets. They are clueless w/o banding together they would have had nothing to negotiate. I did notice they were more concerned about the top of the food chain than the bottom in negotiations if given enough rope. I kept my same Dem registration for my 30 yrs but seen some change. I think it was being opportunistic on their part.

2. I am very familiar with the cognitive dissonance you describe.
The inherent hypocrisy of it is astounding. The fact that this apparent cognitive dissonance is so very hard to understand and explain tells me there's something else, entirely at work. I bet the vast majority of government-employed G.O.P. voters are men.

3. I saved 5 jobs by working with another Union Rep to gut our local budget..
of fat. We were able to save the jobs by cutting back on frills & extras that could be done w/o. I will say the boss went along with our recommendations. Never received one thank you or KMA. The cuts were restored 2 yrs later when things stabilized in the economy. I don't see the present leadership doing the same, because they aren't willing to step into the breech to fill the gaps. I did a lot of little extra BS stuff to keep my guys.

4. They have been fed SUCH a stream of shit all these years..
It's a shame that they don't wake up until they're in the crapper themselves.
