This event happened on 18.05.2009: Xcel Energy officials are investigating what caused part of the Prairie Island nuclear power plant to shut down unexpectedly on Monday. One of the plant's two units in Red Wing automatically tripped off shortly after 1 p.m., apparently because of an electrical problem. Utility officials said there were no injuries and no radiological releases as a result of the shutdown; the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission described the incident as a "non-emergency." The last time that a Prairie Island unit shut down automatically was during routine testing in July 2008. One unit was also taken off-line manually for four days in late December 2007, when an emergency backup generator failed during regular maintenance.
