The Civil War didn't destroy our economy, another 9-11 sure wouldn't.

Remember that the economy and the airlines were already in bad shape prior to September 11th. The shock of the attacks (as opposed to the attacks themselves) is what hurt us. It wasn't the loss of life; we lose 6-7 times that many Americans every year to lack of health insurance. It wasn't the physical damage; even the destruction of expensive Manhattan real estate pales in comparison to natural catastrophes like Katrina.

The best foreign policy move, and the best economic move (IMHO) we can make is to do anything and everything to stop using oil. More efficient vehicles, electric vehicles, and substituting domestically produced wind turbine energy and NG for imported oil. When we can start making foreign policy decisions out of strength and integriity rather than fear, greed, and need, we'll find our way again.

To me, it's not merely enough to end the wars. We need a phased disengagement from Middle East politics. We need to end our dependence on their resources so we can work toward neutrality in the region.

20. Because the refusal of the Obama Administration to investigate is the cover-up

for Bush and Cheney's crimes. Obama's insistence that we let bygones be bygones only ensures that no one will ever know what they did exactly. And it enables other administrations (like the current one) to do the same thing. Presidents never relinquish power once it has been obtained. I fully expect that eventually we will have a dictatorship, where the Congress and Supreme Court have been relegated to second class status, if Obama is not reined in now.

I think Cheney probably sees himself as the Lee Harvey Oswald of the torture issue and so it's his job to head off investigations, since he's the one who'll go down if there are any.
