A new study from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) researchers found that participants who drank for a week from polycarbonate bottles -- the popular, hard-plastic drinking bottles and baby bottles -- showed a two-thirds increase in their urine of the chemical bisphenol A (BPA). Exposure to BPA, used in the manufacture of polycarbonate and other plastics, has been shown to interfere with reproductive development in animals and has been linked with cardiovascular disease and diabetes in humans.

Convince men that drinking from plastic bottles will make their penises shrivel up & drop off, and you may have hit upon a tactic for reducing consumption!

I'm being facetious, of course, but it's been my experience that convenience trumps health concerns much of the time.

2. One problem is that

these studies are relegated to the "environmental health" cave where they sit until political action moves them into mainstream human health considerations.
There are tons of studies that show our exposure to chemicals play a huge role in our most common health problems - and health care expenses.

Presently the efforts are being taken at the state level but we need to unite environmental health with human health and fight the millions (billions?) expended by corporations who do not want that to happen.
