2. I have not talked with everyone yet - there are several million I
missed. The few dozen I have talked to aren't aware of predicted food riots. As a matter of fact, we went to grocery store yesterday, and no one appeard to be stocking up on anything.

We keep about three weeks worth of canned goods, including canned meats and fish (salmon and tuna), plus a lot of food for the furkids.

4. I tried keeping tinned foods once...
The cans started to bulge. That was cool, but I didn't want to see them explode with little alien life forms escaping out of them... :D

7. I have been concerned about that very thing. We make an effort
to do what good grocers do - first in first out - of items on our shelves by rotating to the fromt the stuff that is the oldest.

Also, we don't stock up on tomatoey (I think that is a made up word) stuff - sauces, diced tomatoes, etc. I've read they explode the quickest.

We also have lots of different types of dried beans and pastas that we have put into good glass jars with good seals. A plus is that we only have the two humans in the house, and the furkids, so it's not a lot of stuff stored on shelves.

5. Wait...
this will happen because that evil Kenyan Communist Socialist Fascist Muslim HUSSEIN OBAMA is gonna take all the food in addition to all the GUNZ, right?

I just need a frame of reference.

11. An easy way to stock your larder is to just buy one piece every time you shop
One or two canned goods or one of those shelf stable convenience foods at a time. You won't even know you're doing it, and it won't be a big outlay at once. Also good is Dried fruit, nuts, peanut butter, and a coffee perculator you can put on an outdoor gas grill.

I'm thinking more of hurricane season, but food riots would work with same theory.

13. Here's a relevant, fact-based assessment of looming food shortages
You have to scroll down this blog a post or to to find this item with Food Shortages header:

Food Shortages and the Fate of Our Civilization
May 14, 2009

"5The May 2009 edition of Scientific American has published a notable article by Lester R. Brown entitled “Could Food Shortages Bring Down Civilization.” The founder of both the Worldwatch Institute (1974) and the Earth Policy Institute (2001), Brown has authored or co-authored 50 books; his most recent is Plan B 3.0: Mobilizing to Save Civilization..."

14. We aren't supposed to store food
We are supposed to start growing our own because by fall we are in deep shit and are all going to die.

I am thinking my 4 Romaine lettuce plants and the eggplant aren't going to keep us alive for the next year, just a guess. I am sure the Petunias are of no use.
