That's my big issue with traditional marriage - he's right! On some level it HAS always been about exclusive ownership of a pussy. (Not your own, ladies - that doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the man who owns you!) Particularly for royal families and the wealthy.

Humans being humans, though, people in love have always subverted that to a higher purpose.

But if marriage is about inheritance, property rights, who has the right to make medical decisions, etcetera, then in the modern era, the right to equal marriage IS "traditional."It's perfectly traditional for your heir to be the person you've slept next to for decades.
