1. Yep, we did nothing the last time around to prevent it from happening again
There is no reason for gas prices to be increasing other than the oil companies want them to.

8. Several things
1) More regulations on the commodity trading floor.

2) Windfall profit tax

3) Call the oil companies a trust and break them up into smaller pieces.

9. Alas, I have no control over those three things
And I live in a gerrymandered district where the people who would be able to act have no intention of or desire to do so

11. I do not have power over those things
However we elected some folks who claimed they would use that power for change. So 'we' did not do 'nothing'. We elected people who did nothing.

2. Like Clockwork...
The other night the local "newbabe" read this story and then chuckled how isn't it great we aren't paying the $3.85 a gallon we did last year? Yeah, I was ready to pop some champagne.

Consider it another raid on what's left of the middle class. There's no real reason for such a rapid increase...no major wars to cut supplies (unless you worry about pirates) or massive consumption. Quite the opposite. What is in need is quick money...make the killing while you can. A run-up in oil prices means a run-up in many stock prices that flush more money back into pockets that lost it last year...right through the backdoor.

4. Of course, there's money to be made! It's the "driving season" after all!
OPEC wants prices around seventy a barrel, so they said.

15. About 5 months ago, they said they were shooting for $100 a barrel.
My guess is once the inventory of unsold SUV's is leveled off those high prices will be back for good.

22. You all should know its nothing new for the prices to jump up at this time.
Its that time of the year when more driving is done and lots of people are going on vacation travel. I work in a tourist area and theirs alot more traffic here in the last couple weeks now. I have an assigned route for cleaning pools at cottages. Out of the 20 house I go to, 16 are being rented currently. Three weeks ago I only had 3 or 4 rented.

23. Like I said, it's the "driving season," after all. Even a penny a gallon increase translates to big
money. If they can make a killing on that, they can make a bigger killing if the price goes up twenty five, fifty, seventy five cents for a bit.

17. it's 2.44 here. Last year at this time it was nearly 4.00 a gallon
I remember it well, I had just bought an SUV that got 18-20 mpg. Did we learn anything? I did....I used to jump in my vehicle several times a day and drive all over town, wasting gas. Even when gas was under 2.00/gal earlier in the year, I still only drove 30 miles a week, grouping all my shopping, bills, etc. into one trip. I only fill my vehicle up once a month, years ago it was once a week.
