I applaud Sec Clinton and Obama on the new benefits for the State Dept
but I don't think unmarried heterosexual couples should be getting them.

Those benefits will be extended to all unmarried domestic partners -- both same-sex and heterosexual -- under the policy shift to be announced by Clinton in the coming days, according to a draft memo prepared for Clinton's signature. The draft was provided to The Washington Post by an official with the organization Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies.

end of quote

There really is a difference between couples who aren't married by choice (heterosexual) and those who aren't married by government fiat (gay). I don't think that unmarried heterosexuals should be getting these benefits because it sends the clear message that the gay couples are still less than the married straight ones. That is unfair and wrong. It is also the precise point that we are seperate but unequal. We are merely equal to the heterosexual couples who, by choice, decided to attach less value to their relationships than their married counterparts did.
