1. Uh...
Alberto Gonzales, Bush's most infamous AG, is a Hispanic.

2. So? That doesn't prevent this being used as a wedge.
Edited on Tue May-26-09 08:29 AM by RB TexLa

The GOP ran ads that were somewhat effective against Mary Landrieu saying she opposed "Catholic judges," while her father was a "Catholic judge."

Wedge, wedge, wedge.

3. Southerners are more tolerant of Hispanics
During the Civil War, Confederate troops even sang love songs about Hispanic women around the campfire.

Southerners, even Texans, are generally tolerant of Hispanics unless they're Klansmen or the like. The main focus of their prejudice is still against blacks and political liberals.

4. Which makes the ads more effective in appeal, if a senator votes against her, we paint him

or her as being against "Hispanic judges." The one vote is the only fact that matters, not Alberto or anything else.

8. You do it with an independent group running the ads.
Our candidates can condemn or no comment on the ads, doesn't matter as long as they get enough impressions.

7. Depending on where you are running you may only need 30% or so of the white vote to win
