they sort out that this couple was legally married and he is the next of kin of him - but the other couple can't get the proper paperwork because of Prop 8 and the rightful next of kin is denied access.

Maybe they can put up separate doors as well - rightfully married gay couples and straights enter here, all others use the door around the corner. Water fountains will be provided in each area for the respective populations.

as long as the couple are registered domestic partners. the CA Domestic Partnership law affords ALL of the same rights to gay unmarried couples as straight or gay married couples.

That is until the fundies succeed in overturning that too.

visitation rights are states rights too. Most hospitals will not under any circumstance keep a partner or friend from seeing someone they brought in.

Where it gets hairy is in making medical decisions for the incapacitated without a living will.

If that's the problem, then by god get a living will and assign power of attorney. It doesn't matter one bit whether you are legal next of kin or not if you have one of those. It is the ace card.

Yeah, I know the stereotype, but it's just not true. We do have electricity. And we're a very
progressive state. Remember, we gave Obama the caucus win. We led the charge. The majority
of the people here are decent, kind and friendly.

I quit jogging on the secondary highways several years ago--because every third car would stop
and ask me if I needed a ride or help.

Neighbors know each other here and help each other out.

And gay marriage is legal.
