Poll question: California: Stay or Go?

We are now all aware of the decision of the Supreme Court of California to uphold Prop 8.

If you are a same-sex couple in California, and you are not already married, is your current inclination to stay and fight the good fight -- assuming that California will do the right thing in the long run.....or do you look at leaving for a state where marriage equality is established?

1. I voted in the name of friends. I know they plan to stay and fight.

I do think we will see the end of H8 in the near future.

2. Move to the northeast

I moved home to New England from San Francisco about 7 years ago. I'm really glad I did. And what better way to get the New England economy moving again than to welcome droves of California LBGT. And hey, the weather isn't *that* bad here.

3. Since I am not gay, I won't vote

Nor do I live in California. But I say come on out to Iowa, where gay marriage is legal. The Mississippi River is beautiful at this time of year and there are a lot of just plain ol' nice people here. And hey, the money wouldn't hurt either. :-)

that public opinion seems to be going rapidly in favor of gay marriage. I agree with that. We're going to win this one and soon. Don't even think about giving up now! :)

5. Stay and help it get overturned

Too many of my age cohort are apathetic when it comes to politics, but they support gay rights. Help encourage them to get off their lazy asses to vote, and I'm sure the next time this BS ban appears on the ballot (hopefully ASAP) it'll be emphatically overturned.

6. California has really taken a nose dive in all respects over the last

5 years or so. It's getting to ba a living hell. This decision & what lead up to it though the "initiative" process is only the tip of the iceberg.

They say California has entertainment & hi tech going for it but it's not enough to sustain the place. The urban centers are getting to look a lot like NY did in the 70's & there isn't much prospect of things improving.

11. In this economy

I say go where it makes the most financial sense. It may make more sense to move to a state where gay marriage is legal (IA certainly has a lower cost of living than CA) but if you have a good job in CA, stay there and fight! The tide will turn in CA. It's a big state but it will change - and quicker than it will in many other states. Prop H8 itself was fairly close in Nov so I wouldn't give up. The ruling today was nonsense.

It's hard to come by jobs wherever you go now and that goes whether you're gay or straight so couples should do what is in their best interest.

This is a battle that will be won. It's heart breaking that gays have seen this fundamental right snatched away, but capitulation is not an option.

15. If I lived in California

I'd get photos of the six judges and post them everywhere possible. Let them experience what it's like to be refused service in businesses, stores, restaurants just because of who they are. Tell everyone that their families aren't 'real.' Tell them at every possible opportunity that they are worth less than every other citizen in the state. Shame them as they have confirmed the right to shame others. Subject them to every possible scathing and humiliating remark. AND REPLACE THEM ON THE BENCH with jurists who are not owned by hate.

My heart is breaking for my gay friends in California; they are in tears, and I weep with them and for them. It's probably just as well that I don't live in California, as I'd likely wind up in jail for telling those "judges" what I think of them. Fuck them for the ugliness of their diseased thinking!

16. vote with your feet

It's not like there aren't a ton of other problems in California. The Prop process have basically destroyed the state budget, schools, state services. If you're not tied to California job wise and can, why not vote with your feet a leave. That's how most of us got to the USA. Our ancestors move to where they found a place more accepting of them.

Do what is best for YOU, your family, your future and your beloved partner. If that means staying to fight this disgusting, misguided and hateful violation of your entitlement to equal rights, then do it. If it means moving to a sane state (such as Iowa) to raise your family, then do that.

Just don't forget to write, raise money, and raise awareness of the problem from wherever you land. You don't have to stay in the cage to help us break the bars.

19. I wouldn't ever tell anyone else what to do,

but I can tell you this - Iowa is beautiful, the people are friendly and fair and would welcome you. I'm just sad that in too many places in this country, people cannot marry who they love, and I'm hoping for the day when they can.
