They're called fishermen for a reason. Where do they get off?

Fishers tend to be larger than a mink, and smarter.

Fishers are also known as martens.

40. Otters have the best sense of humor of any animal - they are great!
Fishers, despite their name, are kind of tree otters without the humor. They tend to live in woodlands. The name 'fisher' may be from the French 'fichet' (skin or hide) and come from their popularity during colonial times as fur animals. So fishers should be called martens - but that is not as conducive to puns.

47. I didn't know that! Maybe the crawdads in our stream will attrach otters again
WE used to have otters but during the droughts, I think they moved to a more reliable water source. Plus about the same time, there was a lot of development around here. Now that building has slowed down I hope more of the wildlife we used to see will come back. Except for the alligators - I'd just as soon not see them!

10. that's deadliest catch. and now that you mention it....
there are no Women on any of those boats. in fact, on an episode yesterday during a marathon, on one boat the crew remarked regarding a picture a 'greenhorn' had posted by his area he spent all his time at.... the only women that should be on the boat should be naked women (in picture form i assume)... it's bad luck or something of that nature. i was appalled.

12. Some do have women, I remember seeing that show

and seeing a woman on one of the boats. Her job was to be the kitchen lady, but she was there. I think it was the wife of one of the captains.

19. The belief that women are bad luck on boats is ancient.
It can be traced back as far as we have written records about men and boats. If you think about the reality of women (who had no rights at the time) onboard a boat for weeks or months at a time with potentially dozens of horny and barely civilized men, it's easy to see where the superstition may have arisen from. There are still a lot of superstitious people making their living from the sea.

but not part of the "crew."

It is a bit strange, although I haven't seen any indication that a crew wouldn't accept a woman if she could physically do the job. The bad luck thing is a fairly ancient thing that goes back hundreds of years. Lots of ships crews - both military, civilian and (especially) pirate, viewed women on a ship as bad luck. An example of this can be seen in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie where the quartermaster remarks (about the governors young daughter) "it's bad luck to have a woman on the ship, even a miniature one."

One of the first pirates to allow women on his crew was "Calico" Jack Rakham, although he was sleeping with both of them and (although history is cloudy on this) both were pregnant with his children when Rakham's ship was captured. Again, although cloudy, it is believe that the two women crew members were both spared hanging because they were pregnant and later released. Ironiclaly, the two women were the only sober crew members when Rakham's sloop was intercepted and the only two to put up a fight.

PPPPPPTTTTTTHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Ha! I already got my license, so nanny nanny boo boo and no trout for you!

My fishing buddy of 25 years, by the way, owes me well over a million bucks in unpaid fishing bets. We always very loudly proclaim our bet (cuz it's fun to watch other anglers' jaws drop) - $50k on the first fish, $50k on the biggest fish, $50k on the most fish. Anyhow, he sez he'll pay up one day, I always remind him of how lucky he is that I don't charge interest, besides which I'd rather have him owe it to me than cheat me out of it.

Go GHOTI!

Growing up we had a creek that would be littered with carp after a big storm. They eventually drained the upstream lake and started over with bass and redear.
