California voters likely to revisit same-sex marriage next year
The next same-sex marriage battle in California will be fought over a referendum aimed at the November 2010 ballot that is likely to include door-to-door campaigning in Bible-belt areas of the state that backed Proposition 8.

The battlegrounds will not be in San Francisco or West Hollywood but in places like Fresno, the geographic center of California where proponents of same-sex marriage will hold their first high-profile event on Saturday.

...

Yes on 8 chairman Ron Prentice said today that Prop. 8 supporters are planning a statewide, multimillion-dollar campaign supporting marriage between men and women only.

"We're enjoying today," Prentice said after the court's ruling. "We'll be ready for a new campaign if a new campaign comes."

I want to make that twit Ron Prentice eat those words of enjoyment.

1. We need to start fighting back against gay marriage ban amendments in other states the same way
We need to try to overturn gay marriage bans (or better yet, put up a ballot initiative to legalize gay marriage) in the states that we can win such battles in right now. Nate Silver did some good analysis on when all 50 states would likely reject gay marriage bans, you can view it with the link at the bottom of my post.

We especially ought to push for a ballot initiative in New York to let the voters legalize gay marriage themselves if the state senate won't vote to do it. Polls have shown we could win that battle there.

4. I just do not get why people voted FOR Prop 8....
...maybe it was the way the ballot measure was worded? That they thought a YES vote they were in favor of allowing gays to marry?

I am just totally upset by all of this.

9. I don't for sure, but I can tell you that the commercials used every scare tactic in the book
They lied outright and they scared people. They played on latent (and not so latent) homophobia.

Here are some examples:

10. Yeah, the one about "teaching gay marriage to children" in the...
..."public schools." That was total bullshit. I do recall that ~~ so, yeah, there was a ton of scare materials out there. How totally bogus.

But thinking about this for a minute ~~ I do realize that the uninformed consider being gay a choice...so they must be afraid that their children or grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc., would make that "choice." And with the fundies, that choice would be a sin.

When are some people going to finally realize that there is a continuum from totally gay to totally straight and a ton of points in between those two ends and people are just born a certain way with a particular orientation on that continuum. It just is what it is. I am tall with light brown eyes and dark brown hair and I am straight. Like I said ~~ it just is what it is. What a crime that some are so uninformed and continue to choose to be uninformed about sexual orientation. To me? No different than the color of one's hair or eyes ~~ just born that way.

7. Bingo!!!! Our last campaign was dismal to say the least. We
need to go to a new strategy, like change the word marriage to civil unions for everyone, and if you want to get married in a church then you could, but "legally" the word is civil unions.
