Those idiots are bound by no rules and treaties and are threatening war as of this morning.

I think Obama has got to send the North Koreans a clear message that if they take any military action then the United States will turn their country into a freaking parking lot.

4. Two points
the war did not end in 1953, there was just a ceasefire

This is north korea posturing

So how exactly do you expect the US to answer this? A nuke perhaps? Apart of the forces in the peninsula tell me where else are we going to get the necessary military forces to respond right now? Bear in mind, those forces in the peninsula are speed bumps and they know it.

I expect more of this, with little if any actual action. And if they actually act, then and only then we will need to respond... and I hope you are willing to march to war. This will require a draft. Mostly we don't have the active duty military... due to two wars.

By the way, they get that.

9. Kim is trying to blackmail
us by threatening us with nuclear proliferation so we'll help finance his crooked regime. It's a no win situation if we just require him to do nothing while we pay him. We have to figure out a way to make him do something like open up his society and let it progress. He doesn't want that because if his people actually find out there is a world out there they'll shit-can his ass before quick. But he's no real threat himself.

The real danger is if all that shit he's making gets spread around to people stupid enough to try to use it on us.

Are they the ones that are going to stop American ships and confiscate cargo. Are they the ones threatening economic sanctions? Or are they the ones saying they won't tolerate it and will protect their property even if it means war? Where do we come off Dictating what other countries will do or not?

But Kim is old and his health is really bad.

Wait for him to die and try to reason with his replacement.

Engaging in threatening behavior would only bring US to North Korea's level.

We must -- simply MUST!! -- peaceafully and respectfully -- engage North Korea in talks aimed at understanding North Korea's grievances, and then work to resolve issues of mutual concern.

Threats, saber-rattling, and WAR are NOT the answer.

WAR is NEVER the answer!!

The North Koreans now have nukes and we have not made any progress, Not to mention they are now working on long range ballistic missiles that can hit our west coast.

But that is nothing to worry about. Lets try diplomacy for a few more years, by then North Koreans should have long range missiles with nukes on em.

That is simply not supported by evidence. The DPRK really hasn't made any technical advancement in rocketry in 10-15 years. Those multi-stage Taepo-Dong were all conjectural threats drummed up to scare congress into funding missile defense.

Rockets are expensive complicated machines, there is really nothing to be gained by spending resources beyond already extant models that can hit Japan and South Korea.

Do you worry about Iran building a missile that can hit Antartica?

What model missile and how many stages. I think you will find the Taepo-Dong 3/4 stages are vaporware or exploded.

The Taepodong-2 missile was first reported by Japan to have travelled 500–640 km from its launch site, Musudan-ri. However, this has been disputed first on July 7 by bloggers and later on July 10 by security experts, using simple physics calculation. They estimated that the most likely outcome is that it fell 1.4 km from the launch pad and attained a maximum altitude of 4.4 km, and that "almost certainly" it was a satellite launch at an inclination of 41 degrees or perhaps a three stage booster dummy warhead launch to impact down range in the south Pacific relative to South America. This has later been confirmed by US DoD and Japan's Defense Agency on July 30. The range is revised to be about 1.5 km from the launch site in North Korean waters.

39. Now compare that to what happened in March of this year
Nouth Korea informed the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that it will launch a "communications satellite" Kwangmyŏngsŏng-2 on a Unha-2 carrier rocket between April 4 and April 8, 2009;<13> however, security analysts anticipated it would be a test of a long-range ballistic missile that could reach potential Japanese or mainland US targets.<14> On April 5th 2009 the rocket was launched at around 02:30 hours UTC (11:30 hours KST).<15> The US Northern Command said that the first stage of the rocket fell into the Sea of Japan, while the other rocket stages as well as the payload fell into the Pacific Ocean, and no object entered orbit.<16><17> Later analysis indicated the rocket impacted 2,390 miles (3,850 km) from the launch site, and that second stage operated normally but the rocket's third stage failed to separate properly.<18> North Korea maintains the rocket successfully put its payload in orbit.

43. You seem to understand very little about how this works
First, there are two seperate factors of rocketry: Distance and Accuracy. NK does not have a rocket with the capability to reach the US mainland (or Hawaii). They do not appear to be close to developing one. They also haven't show the ability to be any more accurate with said missiles than being able to "accurately" hit the Pacific ocean with them, which doesn't speak well of their accuracy.

Also, IMO, if the US thought North Korea was a true nuclear threat to the us, we'd make sure they weren't a true nuclear threat to us...know what I mean?

Edited on Wed May-27-09 02:37 PM by wuushew
Considerably worse in fact.

On 31 August 1998, the first and only flight test of the Paektusan-1 was conducted at the Musudan-ri Missile Test Site. The missile was launched as a three-stage space launch vehicle (SLV), but it failed to place a small satellite, the Kwangmyŏngsŏng-1, into low-earth orbit. The first stage separated about 300km east of Musudan-ri, and the second stage fell into the Pacific Ocean about 330km east of the Japanese port city of Hachinohe, after flying approximately 1,380km from the launch site. The third stage, which used solid fuel, failed to place the satellite into orbit, but the first and second stages separated successfully and functioned properly. Debris from the launch was tracked to nearly 6,400km from the launch site.<8 >This test had a major impact on US and Japanese assessments of the ballistic missile threat posed by North Korea.

I think it's pretty darn well implied that any country starting a direct military action against a US allie is picking a fight with us as well.

North Korea has been rattling the sabre since the Armistance treaty. It's how they extort money, energy and food aid from their neighbors. I think that beyond ending any aid ties with North Korea, that the North pretty much knows where it stands in terms of military actions.

It's easy to hide behind a vague "take care of business" attitude.

HOW would you take care of business?

Keep in mind that North Korea has hundreds of thousands of troops poised on the border, and whatever troops we have would be little more than a delaying speed bump. Keep in mind that Seoul is within North Korea's artillery range. Keep in mind that North Korea could easily target our bases in Japan. Keep in mind that any all-out war with North Korea could easily result in TENS OF THOUSANDS of American troop casualties, and MILLIONS of civilian casualties.

With that information at hand, what would YOU do, since you obviously seem to have some grand scheme that neither Clinton, Obama, or even the warmongering BushCo had.

I thought we learned that lesson in 1950. China does not want the U.S. to have any military foothold in any nation on its borders, and is willing to involve itself military to make sure that doesn't happen.

China is the only reason Kim is still in power. They don't like him any more than we do, but they like him more than they like us.

53. What can the United States do about N. Korea? Nothing....
Our manufacturing base is gone.. dismantled and shipped to China. Our steel mills lay rusting and our rail roads have grass growing over them. We can't even make small arms ammo here anymore. It is sub-contracted to China.

And this week.. we are about to drive a wooden stake through the heart of our last production line and parts network. (Good bye to GM)

Our soldiers are tired and mentally exhausted after fighting 10 years of a useless phony war that only benefited Wall Street and sucked cash out of savings. U.S. soldiers are strung out on 135 bases around the world. Over 50 Million American workers are sick and tired with high blood pressure and diabetes because they can't afford to see a doctor.

Why do you think North Korea is thumbing their nose at us? They are not stupid... they can smell the decay in the United States.

If China says "jump", we will say "How High"... or China cuts off our credit. All this because of our genius politicians in CONgress and Senate (both parties), who are bought and paid for by the Bankster/Gangsters.
