Same-sex couples fill wedding license office in protest- refuse to leave all day (San Diego)

DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO – Forty people who staged a sit-in of sorts at the County Administration Center have left the downtown San Diego building without any arrests or disruption.

The demonstrators had sat for hours in the waiting area in the county clerk's marriage license office to show their support for same-sex marriage. Three same-sex couples asked for marriage licenses and were denied.

Just before closing time at 5 p.m., about five hours after the first protesters had arrived, seven or eight sheriff's deputies came in and told everyone it was time to go.

Some left right then, while others stood their ground. Deputies then went to each person individually and told them they'd be arrested. The group slowly filed out and gathered in front of the building to chant while TV cameras rolled nearby....
