Holocaust deniers are obviously crazy. Batshit insane. There's no sense in wasting one's precious time even acknowledging them, let alone arguing with them pointlessly.

13. I met a nun who was a holocaust denier...

There were 2 nuns in a class I was teaching. I had invited the parents of one of my students to come to class and talk about their life experience as holocaust survivors. They hadn't talked about it much but they had been filmed recently by Spielberg for his "shoah" project.

Anyway, most of the students were young adults. There was one young nun and an older nun. It was a Catholic college so maybe the older nun didn't see why I was inviting Jews to class - so she cut class the night they came.

It was unforgettable. My students father was a young teenager at the beginning of the war, and his mother sent him away. The rest of the family went to Auschwitz and all 9 of them- his parents brothers and sisters, perished there. He told us how he and some teenagers were running around Poland hiding from the Nazis for a matter of years. After the war he went back to his parents home and there were other people living there. He told them it was his home and they said 'get out and never come back'. He pointed out his mothers sewing cabinet and told them what the inscription was on it- and they threw him out. So he came to America as a teenager with no shoes on his feet.

Hearing one personal story of a survivor leaves a tremendous impact. One of my young students told me later that he had no idea 6 million Jews were killed in Europe during WWII.
