PSA: Check your credit card due date
After years of my Discover Card having the same payment due date every month, I just noticed on the most recent statement they have changed it to five days earlier. I was given no notice whatsoever. Being paranoid, I suspect this is an attempt by the company to garner some extra $$ with late fees, particularly as I pay off every month, so they make nothing from me.

I'll certainly be reading all my statements carefully from now on, not to mention using that card one Hell of a lot less.

7. I used to get paid once a month with direct deposit to their bank ...
because of the timing, for 4 months, I didn't have any monthly bank fees. Then they moved it back a week and the fees kicked in. Needless to say, I do banking with a credit union.

Total. Fucking. Douchebags.

3. Me, too. Barely caught it in time. Clever way to boost income from fines.
Taking notes, for when the Revolution comes.

5. Discover sent out notices with their statements a couple of months ago
That they would be changing due dates. You can call in (or sign up your account online) and get the date changed to a day of the month you select.

I don't think Discover will be shifting their dates around - I had to call them about something else and the representative I talked to said they were changing their systems and that was the reason for the date change.

9. this has been going on for awhile. there have been a lot of people having the
due dates switched around every couple of months. i believe it is an attempt to cause a late payment thus incurring the fee and possibly and increase in interest. glad you caught it. this is bs.

12. Discover pissed me off
Edited on Thu May-28-09 01:28 PM by Froward69
so bad a couple years ago. Once I paid them off and called to 1)verify and 2) cancel the card. they slapped me with interest payment on the amount I had Just paid off!!! what had pissed me off to begin with was they jacked my interest rate as my payment arrived in the afternoon mail of its due date. (fuckers)
So I sent them a check from another card (the only one I carry now for emergencies BTW) they left me alone for 30 days... then it started with the "Low introductory rate" mail adds.

the one in my pocket (capital One) has never incurred any interest as i have never charged anything i did not pay off that week. Also they have bumped up my due date 2 sometimes 5 days earlier than the month before. the really funny part is they have bumped it up so much it is now the end of the month (where it should be and had been to begin with)

13. I had a card with a due date so close to receipt of statement, that if I was out of town
or the statement delayed in the mail...well, you get it. I stopped using the card after the second time
they posted late fees on me.
