I find Sen Burris an embarrassment
The clincher was his interview with Matthews, yesterday.

I don't really know what went on or if he is guilty of anything, but he sounds just plain weaselly.

1. But you're not from Chicago...Does he embarrass you as a Democrat?
Because RFK's son has thrown his hat in the ring and I think he is a sure bet to win in 2010!

5. fer chrissakes
Is it too hard to actually spell out where you believe this lifelong Democrat was untruthful? One of the first blacks elected to statewide office in Illinois . . . he deserves better than 'weasel' words.

12. I think he's confused most of the time
He sounded pretty rattled, but I'm understanding enough of this man to sort out the facts from the charges and clumsy defenses and stick to those when discussing the senator.

13. in his own words...
Edited on Thu May-28-09 07:47 PM by DaveinJapan
here is part of the conversation between Burris and the ex-Governor's brother Rob...

BURRIS: If I don't get appointed then my people who I'm trying to raise money from are gonna look at me, yeah, what, what's that all about Roland. I mean, so, Rob, I'm in a, I'm in a, a dilemma right now wanting to help the governor.

BLAGOJEVICH: Yeah.

BURRIS: I mean I, you know I, I have been with him on all of the, all the issues and I'm now trying to figure out what the hell the best thing to do.

BLAGOJEVICH: Yeah.

BURRIS: I know I could give him a check.

BLAGOJEVICH: Yeah.

BURRIS: Myself.

BLAGOJEVICH: Yeah.

BURRIS: And, and my law partner we were gonna try to do something at the law firm. I might be able to do this in the name of Tim Wright.

BLAGOJEVICH: Mm hm.

BURRIS: Okay, 'cause Tim is not looking for an appointment, okay.

I could give him a check? Do it in someone elses' name so the "appointment" doesn't matter? Sounds pretty bad to me.

14. nice trick
partial quotes.

I heard the phone call. He was asked to support the governors campaign. He said he wanted to but he was also interested in the seat and he expressed concern that that effort would be seen as payment for the seat he was seeking. Options were discussed, but, in the end, Burris made the right choices. NONE of what was discussed involving his lawyer was ever actually done, because Burris obviously concluded it would run afoul of the law and everything else. I think he should be judged by what he actually did, not from a conversation about navigating election laws and ethics (a conversation which most politicians have every day).

17. No trick...
I provided the link to the entire conversation.

You'd prefer I copy and paste all seven pages? I just indicated the part that bothered me, that's all.

But whatever. You think he's a fine, upstanding citizen. Good for you. Doesn't appear that way to me though.

He also made many of us look like fools - the mausoleum should have been a hint.
My bad.

10. I am not making excuses for him in the least, but I listened to the tapes
and it's hard because in politics you have to raise so much money to be able to run. It's almost like they are trying to attract corrupt people who will do anything to win. There should be some sort of system where everyone who gets a certain number of votes or signatures gets free air time and commercials.

15. I listened to that interview too
and I came away knowing full well that he is a crook, a 100 percent sorry mo'fo. He was so glad to end that interview cause tweety was tying him in knots. Burris needs to be in a cell not in our Senate.

16. If he committed some crime why don't you spell that out?
Why isn't he under indictment or investigation? Are the prosecutors ignoring all of this evidence of a crime that you think exists?

I guess I really shouldn't judge a book by it's cover but Burris just doesn't seem clean to me.
