..... I'm watching it now on the Retro channel. Not bad. How ironic that he played Winston in this movie and the repressive Chancellor Sutler in "V for Vendetta."

1. It was pretty good.
They did a good job at setting up an atmosphere of oppression. Must have been lens filters or something.

10. Yes, very true to the book. John Hurt even matches my mental picture of Winston when I read it.
But of course the book is always better.

3. when i was younger, the original '1984' movie was on TV occasionally...
Orwell's widow had it jerked, finally, for whatever reasons...

as a kid, i remember the absolute starkness of the State...it was much less 'hollywoodized' than the later version...much more 'after the Cold War' style...even though it was made in 1956, and was probably less interpretive than the later version...

a truly cold take on the story...

9. Saw it when it came out.
It's an excellent movie and very true to the book. The story is as relevant today as when it came out. Blair was a prophet.

I remember it was very gray & depressing, but it stayed true to the book, for sure...which many complex book to movie adaptations have an issue with
