PA newspaper runs ad calling for assassination of Obama
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_mupm2BmIjtc/Sh8EGG4SuKI/AAAAAAAAHf4/q4-h2Sb-hOU/s400/obama+assassination+ad.jpg

The text of the small classified ad reads, “May Obama follow in the footsteps of Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy!” There is no other text and it has no attribution. <...>

Keystone Progress called the Times-Observer for comment and got a return call from John T. Elchert, the paper’s publisher. Mr. Elchert was extremely apologetic and wanted to make it clear that the ad did not reflect the paper’s policy.

“It is unfortunate that it made it to press,” said Elchert. “The person who took the ad didn’t recognize the significance of the names. We cancelled the ad and turned the information over to the authorities.” <...>

I hope the significance was explained. Somebody else besides the person who took the ad was probably involved.

4. 'The person who took the ad didn’t recognize the significance of the names.'
Here's a name to remember when thinking about murdered presidents:

Bush.

11. ". . . didn't recognize the significance of the names."
That jumped out at me too. Is our children learning? Good grief, how ignorant do you have to be not to recognize the significance of those names?

5. I don't think the person who let the ad through was racist...
In a place where a plurality of the population rejects evolution and 1/3 believes that Genesis is a history book, there are plenty of dumb asses around to make this kind of error, especially in the parts of PA that are not adjacent to Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

P.S. LET'S GO PENS!!!

The problem is assassination. Ignorance is no excuse either.

8. Person who placed the ad
should be easy to find, especially if this is a small town. If they can't figure out who posted the ad, then they should look carefully at the people who allowed the ad through.

10. It scares me that the person who gave the ad the go-ahead didn't know those names.
That person shouldn't have a job anywhere near the media.

13. Probably just some lowly part-time...
copy clerk. Answers the phone, takes the info, types the ad.

Looking forward to reading about the implications of such utter stupidity. I hope many years are involved.

15. Now the guy who took the ad, I can actually buy the idea didn't really know the significance
of it. Yes, we all do. Those are the four presidents who were assassinated in office. I think Lincoln and Kennedy are pretty obvious but some uneducated person might not have known a great deal about Garfield and McKinley. But certainly the person who placed the ad knew exactly what they were doing and I think needs a visit from the secret service.
