In Hungary the radical right Jobbik party are campaigning in the European elections. Their candidates are tipped to win at least one seat. Backing for the far right group has increased as discontent over the economic crisis in Hungary deepens.
Jobbik’s manifesto is based on three points, to preserve their country’s national heritage, to tie welfare benefits to work and to create a special police unit to tackle what the group calls, “Gypsy crime”.
Csand Szegedi, Vice President of Jobbik said; “The Hungarian state treats Gypsies as animals right now. They don´t regard them as humans. They give them money and aid not in order to work but to have children. And that’s the fault of the state which regards them as animals and conducts a kind of Gypsy breeding programme”.
