and his good writers have clearly deserted him.

He got his start by stealing from Bill Hicks, who was still performing even as he was dying of pancreatic cancer, and that was how he got himself noticed. After that, his "bad boy" schtick made him unique, and he did have good writers.

Now, he's tiresome, his real self shines through, and the streak of nastiness I always sensed in him shines more brightly than any of his quips.

(If you're not familiar with Bill Hicks, check him out at youtube, and keep in mind that he's been dead for fifteen years ...............)

Maher's fans are so odd - they simply cannot abide the notion that someone doesn't think their hero is funny. They go ballistic.

There were only a few times when he didn't have a decent comeback to their bull crap. For instance, Bill didn't know enough to ask Bolton why W issued an order to keep the torture related documents secret in the first place or at least release them before he left office. That was a weakness on Maher's part.

But mostly he came back very well as did his third guest. I thought that Bolton wasn't his usual confident, pompous self. I expected he would be way more acerbic.

Not my favorite show. The best show ever was one from last season with Mos Def and Professor Cornel West literally took control of the show rendering Bill mostly speechless. That was a priceless hour.

Anyhow, I enjoyed hearing Bill make Bolton appear humbled more often than expected.
