Obama creates post to oversee cyber security
Cites growing attacks on US networks

WASHINGTON - America has failed for too long to protect the security of its computer networks, President Obama said yesterday, announcing he will name a new cyber czar to press for action.

Surrounded by a slew of government officials, aides and corporate executives, Obama said the nation has reached a "transformational moment" when computer networks are probed and attacked millions of times a day.

"It's now clear this cyber threat is one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation," Obama said, adding, "We're not as prepared as we should be, as a government or as a country."

He said he will soon pick the person he wants to head a new White House office of cyber security, and that person will report to the National Security Council and the National Economic Council - a nod to Obama's contention that the country's economic prosperity depends on cyber security.

5. The only persons calling this individual a czar is you and the
Corporate media.

As for Cyber security, what do you propose? Wait till something terrible happens that you couldn't have imagined, and then get on it? :eyes:

4. The trick is to find someone who can genuinely do the job without supervision and ...
... let them do their job.

Obama is a good manager, he just needs to stop prioritizing his apologies.

You know, first apologize to the GOP's leader, Limpballs, for being offended when Sotomayor's comments from long ago are distorted, then, maybe if he has time, the dirty, unwashed peasants.

But, that's only if anyone remembers who they are come Monday.

6. Part of him being busy is dealing with this issue,
I suppose.

It doesn't need to wait till bad shit happens to become a priority a la Bush, does it?

7. Like Vic Fehrenbach & Dan Choi, you mean? He's too busy to help them.
Only having been in office so many months. You know that drill. I think "bad shit" has happened to them.

8. I didn't know a President could overule laws passed by congress.
but I know your issue, and I respect your frustration.

But then you were frustrated with Obama long before Obama ever even got into office.

I was here before your ass even got here!

You are forcing me to call you a big fat ass liar...which apparently you are.

Perhaps you are projecting your own role here at DU onto me.

12. Dan Choi came out on national television, and therefore told.
Look, I don't like DADT anymore than you do, but until it is repealed, what part of "Don't Tell" gives Obama the ability to change such law? There was nothing to stop investigating, and that's the only thing Obama could order.
