Gas prices jump 20% in 32 days
no mention or concern in this article as to WHY the prices are rising......

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The rising price of gasoline is putting pressure on cash-strapped motorists and throwing barricades into the path of a speedy economic recovery.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas edged up to $2.488 on Saturday, from $2.467 the day before, according to motorist group AAA.

That marks the 32nd consecutive increase. In that one-month period, the average price of gas jumped more than 20%.

That surge is causing concern for drivers as the summer driving season gets underway.

2. Actually, they DID say why -- Summer Driving Season
The price started going up about the same time spring breaks started hitting and has continued to rise.

5. If one traces back in history
One will find a time, before the gas crunch of the 70's, when gas was nearly always
the same price throughout the year .... no giant leaps in price during 'summer months' or
'peak driving periods' ....

This whole line about 'seasons' and petroleum is a farce: petroleum gets processed every day ... 365 days a year ...

There is no reason they couldnt manage their 'high season' like any other industry, by producing more product ...

I am amazed by the number of people who have bought this farce of an excuse from the oil companies ...

9. "Supply and demand" is an evil concept.
Also, once the gas stations mark down the price on their merchandise, they shouldn't be allowed to bump the price back up for the same stuff. They should be required to finish off their old stock first at the discount price.

Would you go to a bakery where they offered a discount on day-old bread, only to find that the next day their (now) two-day-old bread cost the same as their fresh bread? Or how about an auto dealership that charged as much for a 2008 car as for the 2009 model of the same car? Could you even find such places?

3. this will end up hurting the gas folks.... because people will cut back on driving even more.
i have noticed every time i go by the gas station the price has gone up at least 2cents. it is scaring me a bit. and i don't drive that much. I thank god that i don't have to drive to a job every day and such. I mean, the prices are still way down from their high, but still...
