1. I do too!
Or at least the one where psychopaths were considered mentally ill and not allowed to rule/oppress the country and the world.

2. RepubliCons should be ashamed
but by their very nature, they never will be.

I don't think there should be any debate. Torturing another human being is evil.

7. This country has a long history of atrocities
Started with the treatment of Native Americans and it never stopped since. Slavery is one example. And lately with things like Katrina where people were left to die of thirst in a stadium because Bush destroyed FEMA. And there's so much more. Using the atomic bomb on two cities in Japan and the internment of Japanese Americans.

I miss america too, until I remember that the america I was thinking about is a totally false mass delusion.

10. America is shamed. Dishonored and apathetic about it.
If Americans are accepting of and complacent with torture and aggressive unprovoked war, that's pretty much the end of the pretense of a democratic republic.

We'll need a new flag for the Bankrupt Empire of Hypnotized Wage Slaves too. We don't have to pretend to fight for freedom any more, but we'll need to rally around some thing.

disconnect emotionally from the affairs of this fucking human species. Whatever happens to the human race is going to happen and good riddance. I'll just live my life and periodically tell some asshole to fuck off.

Bill Moyers journal last night got into the issue and the thing that got me was the young soldiers who seemed to enjoy what they were doing to the victims of torture. The US military did not treat Nazi's like this in WWII. Where in the flying fuck do we get these people??? They are like something out of the Middle Ages--ignorant, violent, submissive to authority and religious. How in the fuck did this happen in the US. In one generation or less we went from the 60's peace movement to a fascist culture that is far worse than what the 60's was fighting against. These kind of people are not amenable to moderation. They seem to be wired for violence and will do whatever they are told by authority. There is simply no excuse for this.

What I would like to do is get a very heavy baseball bat and every fuckign time I hear someone rationalize torture. Take that bat and hit a fucking home run with their head.

I will not do this of course because I would spend the rest of my life in jail or worse and it wouldn't do any good anyway.

14. I'm only ashamed of those who ALLOWED this to turn into a partisan debate
There are people in the media and in some levels of government who could have stopped it from becoming a political debate, but they didn't.

I have nothing to be ashamed of. Torture violates the Fifth and Eighth Amendments, so to hell with all this wrangling over Geneva and the Army Field Manual.
