Accidentally listened to Glen Beck, I think I'm gonna barf.
He's talking about Muslims and what "they" do as torture and while on one hand he isn't condoning torture by the US, he still thinks we need to be over there defending our access to the oil with a military presence. THAT part at least was semi-honest and the least repulsive thing he said.

Then he goes on to talk about groups of women protesting (in Iraq?) and after the 3rd group is being arrested for protesting because of an original group of women were arrested for protesting they take one woman to prison and anally rape her with a baseball bat until she is dead. SO that means the US HAS to fight "them" in Iraq.

Right. So w t f STARTED all this .. what WORLD leader said torture was on the board, changed the law to make it the pResident's choice?

And anyway MR Glen Beck two wrongs don't make a right, only a reich.

Then he starts talking about how Iraq is the old Babylon and how they view us as the "Anti-Christ" in the Biblical version of the word. Considering how our current administration is acting and what they did to Fallujah for instance, I can see how they might have that kind of opinion.

THEN ......AND HERE IS WHERE I NEARLY LOST MY INTERNAL ORGANS TO SICK DRY HEAVES

He starts talking about Darfur and blaming THAT on THEM "the Muslims" too.

Somebody please help me out of the reich wing spin machine.

I'm fairly certain Darfur is in Africa and that Muslim Extremists aren't the reason for the genocide going on there, but I could be wrong.

Still doesn't make our illegal occupation of Iraq and our inflammatory presence among the oil fields anything that is helping anyone except war profiteers.

2. Our presence in Iraq is actually affecting people in Africa...
Learned something in one of my classes today - I'm taking a seminar on Disease & Medicine in Africa, and today's topic was polio and vaccination in Africa. Apparently many Nigerians are being told by higher-ups in the government and the Muslim clergy (I don't know if that's the right word, but I think you get the idea) not to allow their children to receive polio vaccinations from the US. The reason? The level of distrust in the US has grown exponentially since we attacked Iraq, and apparently many religious leaders and governmental officials believe that the US is trying to wipe out and/or dominate all Muslim populations. :( Sadly, I can kind of see where they're coming from - I doubt I would trust us, either.

6. So the thought is, "If they gave Indians small pox laden blankets.."
Still, what Beck was saying is that the Muslim leaders or Extremists, it's hard to understand the rant when he is grouping multiple groups of people into the "them" catagory... but he was BLAMING Muslims for the genocide.

From what Beck says, WE ARE obligated to try and wipe/out dominate the Muslim populations that don't get behind US and give US all their oil.

7. Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm absolutely not defending Beck
In fact, I think he's a total jerk. The Africa connection just reminded me of what I heard in class today, though, and I thought I'd just throw that out there. :hi: But yeah, Beck is a loudmouth idiot.

10. I totally understood that, I just don't know if his Darfur talk is an outright lie or a weasle.
I stay away from reich wing radio because I litterally get sick to my stomach and I'm afraid I won't be attending any pResidential parades, because the urge to shout, "Hey Chimperor, yeah, you, King George the fat headed wennie who has stolen votes and trashed the USofA, I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK! Right now, you and me, middle of the street. Winner takes all."

14. Yeah, I have the same reaction.
Depending on my mood and the circumstances at the time, it's usually either:

1) :puke:
2) :grr:
3) :banghead:
4)
5) :eyes:
6) :wtf:
7) :scared:

...or some combination of the above. I despise that man.

And it would apply to almost any statement from any Republican, from Delay to Lieberman to Hagel.

13. thats part of it, but there is a strong current of anti-science
in Africa as well. The PRESIDENT of South Africa doesn't even think HIV causes AIDS. The president of Gambia (which also has some malaria vaccine work being done) thinks he has the cure to AIDS with some rub on ointment. It is not really a muslim thing on that. I have personal knowledge of a clinical trial with a malarial vaccine in Mali, a muslim country in West Africa, and extensive NIH facilities in Mali as well. The situation in Iraq doesn't help obviously but this problem with fear/ignorance of science has been a problem for awhile.

16. Of course
I didn't mean for it to come across as saying that our presence in Iraq was the only reason for things like that - just an unforeseen consequence. :hi: That's cool that you've done work with clinical trials and stuff like that in Africa - I'm an anthro major, not premed or bio or anything, but this class is getting me more and more interested in studying disease and treatment. :)

22. well unfortunately
I never actually got to go to Africa. This was a short period of time for me at NIH, but the politics got ugly and I had to leave (they fired the person that hired me). But I talked to my then boss on the phone once while he was in Mali..If you are interested in disease and treatment, and are looking for a challenge, study malaria. Its a fascinating and very overlooked problem..

9. It was on the radio/alarm in the bedroom.
The only time I usually hear it is in the morning.

My husband has this theory that one should play the most OBNOXIOUS radio station in the morning to wake up to so you JUMP out of bed and switch off the alarm.

In the morning the host is John Hines, a local guy who went from having the top mainstream rock morning show to not having a job when the station folded. He used to be ok and I've watched his transformation to this brainwashed mouthpiece with sadness. I actually have been thinking if there would be any way to just have a conversation with the guy and get him to thinking looking at the facts because John Hines hasn't always been an asshole.

Tonight, my husband had a massage scheduled and wanted to relax for a few minutes before he went, so he set the alarm. I'd heard Beck was awful, but man I really got the gag reflex and off course I yelled and cursed at the radio scaring my cat.

Station is changed. Jack FM is annoying enough to wake up to, but has fun and music and no political bs.

12. I think they've gone back to C No News again.
Their co-founder, not Ted Turner but the other guy... Schoenfield was on John Gibbons "Big Show" one day and said that it was the media's job to lie for the government during a time of war so the government didn't have to.

I gave that to some people at a media fair and then some other things seemed to ripple and there was a lot of work on DU to jump on the media for stupid shit and it seemed CNN began to turn around ever so slightly. It just seems if WE aren't on them constantly about their shit, they just go right along with the propoganda flow.

18. They get paid so it's their job.
The media (print, tv news, radio talking heads, pundits, etc) gets paid to provide disinformation to the serfs so by definition that means it is their job. We know it has happened, we just don't know how much.

15. CNN Is Desperate & It Shows. Seems Like A LOT Of Changes There In The Last
year or so. . . New anchors all over the place, several faux "news" transplants (zahn, whoever that is they got to replace soledud o'brien, etc.)
What ever happened to:

Bill Press
Aaron Brown
Carville (Yes, Carville, who seems to have lost the teeth he had a few years ago) I know he's still on there, but he's
obviously a whipped puppy. He might as well be gone.
Crossfire (No such thing as a bipartisan show on CNN anymore)
etc.

19. Zahn - ; Dobbs +
Edited on Wed Apr-04-07 09:37 PM by Robson
For some reason Paula Zahn spends her time trying to get the black/white racist thing going again.

Lou Dobbs I like because he takes on the institutions such as the POTUS, the churches, big business, globalists, Wall Street, Congress, etc that are looking out ONLY for themselves, instead the lower & the middle class working class who should be their constituents.

20. Beck makes Bill O'Reilly's hate speech look subdued.
That's exactly what it is, too. Hate speech. He makes his bucks by catering the lowest common denominator, the ones who'll buy the right wing line about the Muslim people all being out to hate and kill. Every night, his television show features something new that Beck feels you should be afraid of.

I can't help you to discern any logic in what he says, because there generally isn't any.

to exterminate the non-Muslims.
