45. 14,000? Try 800.
This is a high school gymnasium, not a university stadium.

I didn't get a chance to see Hillary today in my hometown. I was too busy attending an anti-war rally held a mile from where she was speaking. Too bad Hillary couldn't have stopped by and filled us in on her views of the war escalation and the funding of it.

:( I just don't understand her tact here. WE DEMOCRATS (with some moderate repub help) voted on November 7 and put the party in the Majority on the Iraq war issue and getting the hell out of there. What is she thinking? Does she think we were just kidding???*&^%$ What's she doing? I just don't get it. I'd love to support her, but I just can't if she's not willing to stand up for what's right. It's a shame. I really, really, really want to support the first female prez candidate.

47. Be careful - Iowa's track record isn't that good...
Iowa Caucus Winners for BOTH Parties and if they made it all the way to president.

1972 - Democrat - Edmund Muskie - Lost
1972 - Republican - no caucus vote - N/A (Nixon of course went on to win, IA was not even in the picture)
1976 - Democrat - Jimmy Carter - Winner!
1976 - Republican - Gerald Ford - Lost
1980 - Democrat - Jimmy Carter - Lost
1980 - Republican - George Bush Senior - Lost
1984 - Democrat - Walter Mondale - Lost
1984 - Republican - Ronald Reagan - Won - however unopposed
1988 - Democrat - Richard Gephardt - Lost
1988 - Republican - Bob Dole - Lost
1992 - Democrat - Tom Harkin - Lost
1992 - Republican - George Bush - Lost
1996 - Democrat - Bill Clinton - Won - however unopposed
1996 - Republican - Bob Dole - Lost
2000 - Democrat - Al Gore - Lost
2000 - Republican - George Bush Jr - Winner!
2004 - Democrat - John Kerry - Lost
2004 - Republican - George Bush Jr - Won - however unopposed

Take out the unopposed (which are irrelevant) and you are left with Jimmy Carter on the left side and George Bush Jr on the right. Not exactly two presidents that either party is bragging about lately.

60. I was ready to start a new thread, but...
My mother watched Hillary's appearance today at a town hall meeting in Iowa, live on C-span. I was out on my bike, and when I arrived home she announced to me "I am 100% for Hillary Clinton. I think she is just the best. She has such a good mind! She is so simple and direct and genuine. I trust her to help us make things better. She has my vote."

Now a few words about my mom: She is 89 years old, has 12 children, 38 grandchildren, and about 8 great-grandchildren. My father died at age 47, leaving her with 12 kids under the age of 18. She has been a political junkie since "Heck was a pup" because her favorite brother was a labor organizer and an outspoken critic of the rich and powerful. She is Very Intelligent, besides being an angel, and a hard-boned Acadian country girl. A keen observer of humankind, literate and hip, quite articulate, compassionate and a bit cynical at the same time. And she can hold a grudge, if she's crossed unjustly.

I consider it telling, in a deep and abiding way, that my mother so enthusiastically endorses this woman we know quite well. I have some serious problems with Hillary, particularly with respect to her position on the war, but she is coming around, as witness her recent trip to Iraq and her bill in the Senate to resist the escalation.I want Albert Gore to jump into the race, and I am literally BEGGING him to announce sometime late this year, say around Halloween, but if he chooses to stay outside Washington, D.C., I am going to put all my energy behind Hill, based on my own musings and those of my very wise Mama.

That is my take. Gore or Clinton, and Edwards, Obama, Clark, or Vilsack can come along for the ride.
