If anyone uses Wheat cat litter...

I recently changed to SWheatScoop cat litter because it's a chemical-free and more environmentally friendly cat litter. Of course, since its ingredient is wheat I was very concerned about the safety.

According to them, their product is not at all affected by the on-going pet food tragedy.

The disclaimer is on their link, and I wrote to the company for more information. I was assured that the litter is safe. I hope this is true. And I've had no problems so far with my cats.

5. It's not losing your "grip" to be safe and alert. I checked the labels

to see what company made the litter. I will continue to be aware of what affects my pets' health.

This argument is a non-starter, unless of course your cat has been neutered and has stitches to worry about. THEN you should be worried about open wounds going near anything that might have infected wheat in it. :eyes:

Although I have no idea whether wheat-based cat liter uses plain wheat or wheat gluten.

8. I don't blame you for your concern. If wheat-related products are

causing the poisonings, it's only natural (and wise) to be concerned about any pet products containing wheat.

of the poisonings, people might jump to the conclusion that wheat litter should be investigated. Gee, don't people realize that cats lick their paws after using the litter box???

It was no doubt processed in a totally different facility, probably in this country. And I hope your cats aren't the habit of eating their litter!

I had not thought about using wheat litter. I know it is difficult to get a company to admit that they purchase the ingredients in their products in a foreign country. They just tell you that it is not affected by the current recall. We have been trying to figure out a way to see where they get the wheat or any other things used in our pet food/pet treats etc. but there is just no way. They should have to reveal where they get this stuff. As for those who think your concern was unwarranted...This pet food poisoning is a sign of extreme worry for some of us. I am now feeding all of my animals a raw diet. A few of them were on raw before the recall for health reasons (grain allergies), but I just started them all on it. The concern is not just for our pets, but also for our families. When we import 70 percent of our wheat from China, etc. it only stands to reason that we are eating it too. And that is just wheat....What about the other stuff we import? Your question is a valid one. I will post it on a few of the pet message boards and see what people can come up with. If I find anything out, I will get back to you ASAP.

I found this article online and it does refer to the farmers that are growing the wheat for Swheat Scoop, which I believe is one of the few companies that make the litter. I am going to assume this is the brand you purchase. Let me know what you think about it. Have a blessed holiday.

20. I use corn-based litters - World's Best and Nature's Miracle

Each of these is made from ground-up corn cobs, and both are totally flushable and biodegradable. Living in a condo where I don't have direct access to my garage, I wouldn't think of using anything that couldn't be flushed. I'm too lazy to run the clay crap out to the dumpster!
