I despise Bush. Completely.

WASHINGTON - President Bush named Republican fundraiser Sam Fox as U.S. ambassador to Belgium on Wednesday, using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress, where Democrats had derailed Fox's nomination.

The appointment, made while lawmakers were out of town on spring break, prompted angry rebukes from Democrats, who said Bush's action may even be illegal.

Democrats had denounced Fox for his donation to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential campaign. The group's TV ads, which claimed that Sen. John Kerry exaggerated his military record in Vietnam, were viewed as a major factor in the Massachusetts Democrat's election loss

5. What are the requirements for ambassadorship? What is Fox's email?

Let's email him and ask him questions about Belgium. I bet he is out to lunch on most anything about the country.

9. He can't. He was proved to be incompetent during the confirmation hearings.

3. Goddamnit. Sorry Belgium and fuck you George Bush*
:grr: Is this appointment like Bolton's recess appointment (i.e. it expires) or are we and the Belgians stuck with Fox until the next president comes into office?

4. A maneuver.
No finesse, no bi-partisanship nothing but a pure political grab. Going around the accepted rules for Bushit's own feeling of power and importance is a sure sign of some illness that should NOT be part of any President's demeanor. But there it is: a sickness, not being a Doctor I have no idea the diagnosis.

Swiftboating this isn't though.

6. If I were Fox I would be embarrassed...
after all, this big, important repub mover and shaker can't get the position the old fashioned way, has to pay his own way, doesn't get a pay check, will probably get yanked at some point and I imagine he won't be the toast of the town in Belgium social circles. As long as we are not planning to occupy Belgium in the near future, there are other, more important issues to fight with the administration about and there are some, more dangerous "bypass" appointments to be up in arms about.

8. I think that the media should be reminded constantly that this guy
bought his position by questioning a patriot's patriotism ...

Not that they would listen, but constant references in the LTTEs and blogs and such may just start to make someone notice ...

10. Tells America to Kiss Off
It wasn't just the Fox appointment, there are two others that are revolting too. He just gave us all the big middle finger.

"It is contemptuous to appoint a self-avowed privatization proponent to the President’s Commission to Strengthen Social Security. Or Susan Dudley, who OMB Watch says “has falsely proclaimed ground-level ozone to be beneficial, opposed ergonomic standards to protect workers from repetitive stress disorders, and even suggested that airbags should never have been mandated in automobiles.” Most perverse, is the appointment of Sam Fox who is responsible for one of the ugliest scenes in American politics in history, the ravaging of a serviceman’s war record."
