A list of people twittering from INSIDE IRAN
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 07:38 PM by Autumn Colors
The revolution will be twittered. MSM is sorely lacking on coverage. Facebook and youtube were blocked as was cellphone service, but people have been twittering updated reports from eyewitnesses (although internet service has been snail slow and goes in and out). Watching the scrolling posts from the trending topic #iranelection is amazing. Log onto twitter.com and check it out.

Here's a list of people twittering reports inside Iran.

@mohamadreza
@mousavi1388
@StopAhmadi
@IranRiggedElect

Follow them and check out #iranelection (hit REFRESH every minute or so).

I thought twitter was nonsense until today.

They are calling on the world to help them -- asking for people to bombard Iranian embassies and consulates around the world with calls and faxes (they ask that people be polite) and to organize protests in front of those embassies and consulates tomorrow (Sunday).

A national strike is being called for Tuesday in Iran. People were requested and spreading the word all over Iran to go to their rooftops and windows all night and shout "Allah o Akbar" to show support for Mousavi. They are trying to network and organize despite the disruption in communications.

2. Well ...
I had about a half dozen people on my following list, mostly personal friends posting about nothing in particular.

3. Ah. So the nonsense was the use you made of the medium, not the medium itself.

20. Klein doesn't twitter. When he posts a blog on Swampland it gets Twittered from the Swampland
Twitter account but he doesn't do any himself like Karen Tumulty, Michael Scherer or Jay Newton-Small.

Too bad.

I know from people asking Karen (on Twitter) if she had heard from Joe, she said she hadn't.

Changing... although when written in Farsi or Arabic, don't the translations into other alphabets vary?

I know what it means. I've lived in Iran although I'm American.

11. Twitter has been shut down inside of Iran, too.

But that hasn't stopped the social networking site from taking advantage of this situation to hype their service yet again.

12. Kinda looks like it hasn't if people are using it there
Anyone who thinks that there's an on-off switch for specific sites like that in, well, just about any country is only deluding themselves.

15. Twitter was blocked earlier today. The government may have unblocked it now.
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 08:11 PM by girl gone mad
Be realistic for a minute. The Masadiq Committee started allowing Facebook and Twitter last February. The Iranian government monitors these services heavily. It's not an effective means of communication for revolutionaries. Not only is the government following everything that gets posted, I have no doubt they themselves post. No one with a brain in their head is using Twitter to communicate anything of importance in Iran.

16. Or people worked around the sievelike "restrictions"
You don't think that people were using those sites despite any attempts at Iranian restrictions? Get real. If they want to block something because people pissed at the government using it, they will not succeed.

But keep on with that dumbass "anyone who uses Twitter is clearly unintelligent" meme that DUers are so programmed to accept.

21. Heh...anyone who followed events like the Mumbai attacks or the recent swine flu
reports via Twitter know better...it is a real source for information from people on the ground. Not MSM twitterers, either, but real people, locals.

I do seem to recall the frequent "why are you posting threads about Twitter entries, give another link" during the swine flu outbreak.
Until those twitter entries started to preceed MSM reports and official US government agencies/various other countries' announcements..sometimes by as little as a few minutes, other times a few hours. Oooops. Twitter was trumping the MSM. Not that trumping them is that hard to do nowadays.

19. Iranians seem to have found a backdoor to Twitter
SOme of the entries have implied that they are using another system or site to post their entries. some have named how. I'm not tech savvy enough to recognize or describe it here, but they are successfully twittering what is happening.

28. More fun: reports that the auxiliary cops are speaking Arabic.
What I noticed is that initially I saw bruises on back, sides, legs, face, not back or top of head. They weren't seriously trying to maim or kill. But the tension has increased and so have the brutality reports. I did see a video of a killing that they thought was out of sight in a private courtyard, but it was video recorded from above. They should have looked up.

As for the helmets. Probably the same place we get all our things: China.

“Here the internet is horrible. After much trouble, I was able t log on through a proxy. I’ll try my best to get the news to you. I have news right now that in Shahrake Gharb is absolute chaos. People are in the streets, they’re chanting. No sign of police. Their protest continues at this hour. I also hear that Niavaran is a big chaotic too — at least until an hour ago. I’m sorry my information is fragmented. I’m afraid I’ll get disconnected. In Niavaran people are shouting from their homes. That way when police comes they quickly retreat; so they haven’t been able to arrest anyone. I’ve also heard that people captured a few of the Basij guys and gave him a beating. It feels like Martial Law here. Cell phones are down, internet lines are horrible, Facebook is filtered, and … I also have news from Ahvaz. They have also announced there that if someone comes out of their house they will be arrested. So keep your fingers crossed and pray for us. Tomorrow is a great day. I gave you the news. Please try to publish it. Thx.”

He picks up his phone and says:
"They came and beat everyone, the kids threw rocks and made them back away. They threw some gas, I think it was tear gas. They threw tear gas. They threw tear gas. THEY THREW TEAR GAS.

""They're all here, it's total chaos, they're coming in attacking everyone the kids were able to hold them off for a bit with stones, they've just unleashed tear-gas on us, or some strange gas, no it's definitely tear-gas."
