Ms. Clinton to move into 60,0000 square foot house which was built .....
..... by the DLC and funded by Microsoft, Exxon, and Fox News.

For the love of good stop w/ all these "house threads." I hope on
beautiful fall afternoon John Edwards' son plays with his daddy in
a big leaf pile and they laugh and giggle till their sides hurt in a
meadow by John's new home. I want it to be such a nice memory
that years later John's son thinks about it and picks up the phone
to call his dad to see if he remembers that day too.

33. Yup. Think about it: the RW-fellating press builds up HRC and Obama...
...and tears down front-runner Edwards. Hmmm, I wonder who they REALLY see as a threat?

Light security provides the neighbors with 24 hour long daylight conditions that Hoosiers would die for their golf outings.

17. Sorry.
Haven't got time right now. Have to rush over and dress the Edwards family in sack cloth and ashes.
Should I go with the $4.50 per yard or the more upscale $15.00 burlap? The $4.50's awful scratchy. But maybe that's a good choice. Let them rich folks know what sufferin's all about, eh?

13. DU Houseboaters are losing sight of
That the Edwards family is in Scranton right now as we type and is helping with winterizing someone's home in conjunction with a One Corps group there. Edwards has called today a day of action in bringing attention to conservation. If we don't start trying to ween ourselves from ME oil, we will continue to fund instability in Iraq and other places, and our service men and women cannot come home as they need to now.

How do you know he's not prone to excess? Even in a 'modest' home? 400 ct. sheets? Glenfiddich? Sirloin? Silk undies? Or do you fancy it's all flank steak 'n polyester?

Whatever. The genuine ignorance is in the perpetuation of this mansion meme. It's on a par with the ignorance that propelled McChimpy into the McWhiteHouse. nd I am mcthrough with it.

Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 05:43 PM by benny05
Edwards has been blessed with everything he wants. He's had an extremely successful career. His wife was also. I do not begrudge someone who has made it to the top to build a compound for privacy and for plenty of folks to hang out. Elizabeth said in Saving Graces that Wade and Cate had their friends over for sleepovers, snacks, sports, etc all of the time. They have two more little ones who will also have their friends over. His children will eventually marry and will bring their kids there. Maybe some day he might have to move his folks in there--who knows. And the new house is considered an energy star house, which means it is very energy efficient.

http://blog.johnedwards.com/story/2007/1/26/15303/2358

Edwards is doing sweatwork, something that only I've seen the Carters do. John's taste is in bigger houses hasn't changed his values in working hard and in pursuit of justice and a willingess to help other, such as helping with winterizing homes. Implementing himself a "college for everyone" fund that he introduced as a bill, and the Rethugs kept it under the drawer.

While this all appears oxymoronic to you and some other DU'ers, they really care about others. And they've always believed that action starts at home. I don't see Edwards as an elistist, but he lives in spacious places. To me, the well-heeled are in a better position to advocate justice for those who cannot than the poor are able to do for themselves.

Why Edwards catches hell for this and no one says anything about the excesses of the Hollywood elite, who many still pay to see their movies, is beyond.

This debate over Edwards house is spreading all over the net. Here is just one example: http://joezsrepublicanpage.blogster.com/john_edwards_americas.html

24. What happened to all the talk on DU about living modestly and caring
about the environment? I guess that was all just talk. It's now OK that Rush Limbaugh drives a big SUV after all. If Edwards can live cut down 10,000 trees and use a ton of energy living in a huge house then Rush Limbaugh driving in a SUV is small potato's.

We should just flush Al Gore's movie down the toilet. Who cares about the land and those who come after us.

I think you are the one who needs to grow up and practice what you preach.

I guess Edwards never had your vote anyway. I don't think it was a mistake to have a house in the country, using well water, and how do you know if the trees cut weren't used for the house? They have of wooden floors in the house.

Regarding energy cost:

Read Elizabeth's post.
http://blog.johnedwards.com/story/2007/1/26/15303/2358

And, as a Presidential candidate, I will want all of the security and privacy I could get.
