Just back from the Fresno, CA rally
HUGE differences this time as opposed to 2003. The vast majority of vehicles honked, waved and/or flashed peace signs in support. I only got flipped off 4 times. This is exactly the opposite of 2003 where we were cursed at, spat on (yes, spat) and called all kinds of interesting names.

There were probably 200-250 people there at a busy intersection with a variety of signs. I was extremely disappointed that there was almost no young people there -- just us old hippie types.

There was a gentleman that owned the Persian restaurant at one of the corners we were at who came up to talk for awhile and offer his support.

There was a lady in the passenger seat of a vehicle stopped for a red light who asked us to pray for her son who was being deployed in July. THAT one was a heartbreaker as she had tears in her eyes. She thanked us for what we were doing.

Sorry, no pictures as I couldn't get the %*&%$#)% digital camera to work.

Peace,

LTH

1. Fresno is a redneck town ...
CSNY played Fresno this past summer and the only place they received more "Boos" was Atlanta Georgia! .... When they broke into Neil Young's new "Let's Impeach The President" one third of the crowd got up and left ...

Fresno is a good town to LEAVE ...

8. Sorry ... they have no desire to evolve there ...
I have generations of experience with the San Joaquin Valley ... it's sad ... crime and ignorance, the religious intolerant, and the uneducated ... the last time I visited there for a large communtiy barbeque a guy was serving up "BUSH'S BEANS" and "dang proud of it" ... as he served up large gobs of it on each person's plate ... literally shoving down the guests throat ...

You wouldn't want to drive up that valley with an "IMPEACH" sticker on your automobile's bummer ... you'd probably lose at least one window ...

When we were in Fresno last summer the tour had so many death threats that we had to have bomb sniffing dogs and bodyguards ... Fresno needs to ashamed at their level of intolerance ...

This isn't about you ...

14. Thanks for the link...
Lived in Fresno county all my life, and first time I've ever heard of it. Definitely something to check out.

13. I've lived in Fresno. My current home town is more Republican than Fresno.
Edited on Sat Jan-27-07 05:07 PM by Ladyhawk
At least Fresno has some diversity. Here? Nada. Still, I would not want to live in Fresno again. It's hot and crime-ridden...and sorry, I don't much like the valley. If I have to be among Republicans at least I have a rather lovely place to live in the foothills.

While living in Fresno, I narrowly missed being robbed at gunpoint at my workplace. That same year a guy in my apartment complex murdered his girlfriend. Some guy saw me drive up to an ATM and followed me. I followed my instincts and stayed in my car until he left. Some 13 year old kid blew away a guy at the mall down the street. :scared: No thank you! I'll stay here until I can live on the coast.

Still, good work in Fresno! I may not like it much, but...uh, good work. :)

18. CSNY played ...
San Francisco and New York last year to rave reviews and standing ovations ... the death threats came in Atlanta Georgia and Fresno California ... just the way it happened ...

In San Francisco ... Neil Young's charity received over 1 million dollars in donation for bridgeschool.org ... check out "The Heart of Gold Gala" at the site to see how beloved this gentelman is ... in some parts of the country ...

9. No shit, huh?
I grew up in Bakersfield, so I know what it's like to be a "blue" in a sea of "red".

Good work Fresno! People like you Taz, are helping to open the minds of people.

Ironic that even here in DU you still get "spat" on.

You rock, baby!

19. Where I grew up they spoke of the "commies" in Fresno
Where my granddaughter lives in San Diego they refer to it as Fresneck. Having spent most of my life within an hour or two of Fresno, I'd have to say it's a pretty typical American small city with its share of assholes but with a growing number of residents who are aware of the outside world. I'm actually amazed at the diversity of the population, but I'm appalled at the piece of shit they have elected as mayor.

20. Same thing in my redneck military town
In 2003, we were spat at, sworn at, hollered at and received a large flock of "birds" from passing traffic.

Today - it was all honks and "thumbs ups". Someone actually counted 140 "positive" and 11 "negative" driver responses.

The tide is turning...
