Why do you think, exactly, Sanford was crying for five days? And, why was he doing that crying in Argentina?

She was his campaign manager and was the one who got him elected to office. He was crying because he knew that going with his Argentine lover meant the end of his political career. I think he knew his wife was ready to help with this matter--look at her response to reporters during this time. And then there is the question of the source of the leaked emails. My hunch it was her, and that they were used to try and make him stop seeing his lover--after all, the newspaper wasn't publishing them because they had no proof. And if he hadn't gone to Argentina, they still wouldn't.

The man was thinking with his little head rather than his big one on this. Anyone with the slightest sense would have informed the lt. governor they were going on vacation for a week--that would have stopped a lot of speculation then and there. The next thing to do would be to make up a plausible excuse to go to Argentina alone--how about a fishing trip or something like that? Or better yet, send the lover money for a plane ticket to the US, where they could have shacked up along the Appalachian Trail.
