Why did the Sanford and Ensign stories break when they did? Is Romney and team behind it?
Consider: both John Ensign and Mark Sanford were considered "rising stars" of the Republican Party before their affair stories hit the media. Now, their presidential aspirations are considered to be dead in the water.

Who benefits?

Well, Palin would. And she's nasty enough to "out" fellow repubs like this. But she's also intensely stupid, and if she or her operatives were responsible, their fingerprints would be all over it. Romney's team is low enough, smart enough, and sneaky enough. Because let's face facts; of the remaining likely candidates, Romney's negatives are less than Palin's, even if party faithful may not like him as much.

Just wait until the big bombs drop about Newt Gingrich. That will give us all the confirmation we need that Romney and his advisors are behind these recent revelations.

2. Never misunderestimate good ole fashioned GOP stupidity!
They do it to themselves.

Yes, they're just that stoopid.

12. There is certainly some power-playing, but that's simply politics. . .
nothing more or less.

5. There are powers behind the scenes that we know nothing about...
Evey once in a while you will hear the name of some billionaire type who is pulling strings while we hear nothing in the MSM about it. Just like when the Wall Street titans outed Spitzer, governor of New York to prevent him from blowing the whistle on the derivatives bubble before Bush could make an exit.

In a down economy, it might be good money if he is still paying ;)

8. Romney Next?
Maybe the next story to break will be one where Romney is discovered to have a love nest somewhere?

14. Sometimes things are exactly what they appear to be.
I think Sanford's wife did him in.

I think Ensign's cuckhold did him in.

I think Romney is stupid, vapid, and a dullard.

16. Never underestimate the power of a politician's penis
to put paid to his political prospects.

I doubt Romney had anything to do with leaking the story. But I am sure that he has a big smile on his face right now.

20. Romney is a first rate opportunist, which means he is smiling right now -
but that same trait makes him just as vulnerable (but of course, he's too smart to get caught).

22. Apparently one purpose of the special undergarments
is to deter cheating. I can see how they could ruin the moment.

I don't think Romney is a horndog, just an uncharismatic cold fish (which is probably just as bad politically as being a horndog).

17. Come On People - Think......
Who was behind all the spying the last 8 years? Why were Repugs marching in lock step every step of the way? What former President headed the CIA? What famous named Governor of a state was overstepped by his brother?

I almost get the feeling I'm watching a Godfather movie and the mob is picking off their opponents one-by-one while they are at church.

What I'm saying here is that I think that the Repug 2012 candidate will be none other than Jeb Bush.

I think his father and brother and removing the obstacles along the way - picking off his possible opponents. I think Cheney is part and parcel to this and he is out to sully Obama. The party of 'no' - probably unsuspecting - thinking that they are just doing this for the party - is being used as a pawn in this chess game.

Yes - I think that the powers at be are mounting a program to put Jeb Bush in the White House - if not 2012 - for certain 2016. They know that they need to have someone in the White House that they can trust - that is one of them - and that will be there to turn back all the positive changes that slip through their grips during this period.

By the time that Jeb is ready to announce - they'll be making him look like a saint.

Make no mistake - the powers at be behind Dubya's administration are hard at work plotting and scheming to take back the power.

They made sure that near the end of Dubya's term that this country would be in so bad of shape that - even Humpty Dumpty couldn't put it back together again. They set up the climate so that they could blame everything on the present administration and take back the power.

It's not Romney or Palin or Boner or McConnell that we have to worry about. This the Bush Crime Family and all their cohorts.

21. I think you have something there -
just as another poster above said, there are others pulling the strings, and Bushco is an integral part of that cabal.

24. Good point!
And many of us knew the wiretaps were NOT about suspected terrorists, but whenever we mention blackmail to keep the GOP pols in line, we generally get accused of having our tin foil too tight.

Oh, it has ALL been about maintaining power.
