The older one is the daughter of a colleague who has asked folks to spread the message far and wide, and I've not seen it on DU yet. Both girls have had suicidal tendencies in the past, so the parents are awfully worried about them.
The parents are appealing to the public to keep an eye out for the car that the girls were driving, a dark blue 1997 Subaru Outback station wagon with a Maryland license plate MBJ-485. The car may have a black cargo box on the roof.
An entry from Crites' diary has her family particularly concerned, according to reports. The entry read: "Wherever I end up laying, whether buried or cremated, I want to stay with my true love, buried next to her. This is my choice. I'm sorry."
The girls were last seen on Jan. 19 before leaving to see a movie in Georgetown. The last cellphone call the younger Rachel made home was traced to a tower in Charles Town (not Charleston) WV on Friday.
16 y.o. Rachel Smith is 5 feet 1 inches tall and weighs about 118 pounds. She has green eyes, and medium-length brown hair. Smith is a junior at Thomas S. Wootton High School.
18 y.o. Rachel Crites is 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighs about 110 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown medium-length hair.
Anyone with information about the location of either girls is asked to call the Montgomery County Police non-emergency telephone number at (301) 279-8000 or the Family Crimes Division at (240) 773-5400.
Deputy Director for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Larry Bonney urges anyone with information about the girls to contact police.
