Lineup Set for April Presidential Debate
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign announced Friday she would participate in a presidential debate later this month sponsored by the South Carolina Democratic Party.

All the announced Democratic contenders have now agreed to appear in the debate, which will take place at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg April 26.

While the candidates have all appeared at several issue forums during the campaign, the debate will be the first time they engage with one another directly in front of an audience.

"I'm excited to be part of this debate so that I can share my views with South Carolinians on how to move this country in the right direction," Clinton said in a statement.

Other candidates participating are Sens. Barack Obama, Chris Dodd and Joe Biden; former Sen. John Edwards; New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson; Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich; and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel.

1. Nobody cares.
Except political junkies -- who need to find ways to lead more varied and interesting lives.

It is too early, it will contibute to candidate fatigue, and it exposes the eventual nominee to months and months and months of potshots from Dem and Repug opponents.

But mostly, not more than one in twenty people give a hoot about a presidential nomination candidates debate fifteen months before the convention.

2. Well, we do have less than a year before the first primary election.
I don't think it's too early. This is the best way to find out how each candidate stands on the issues...all at the same time.

I think more people are interested this time around because most have had enough of this regime and want a better look at our Dems.:)

3. This is one year too early. Can we get Shrub out of office a year
early also? Then this would make sense.
