The problem is you don't want to respect other's opinions because you are emotionally invested, either in materialism or the candidate. Sorry, that is the truth. I am tired of seeing others bashed because you guys are acting like fascists and wanting to cut off debate

3. They need a new decorator. That is so 1960s !!!
I'm with ya. First it was a phony attack on Obama & now Edwards. We need to get our sea legs back so we do not jump when the trolls or instigators start up the attacks between us. We are definitely out of practice on the DU. It will take a few weeks for people to get back to taking everything with a grain of salt... again. It is political season I guess... 16 months early...but political season anyhoo.

27. 800 sq. ft Duplex. 1 adult 2 kids.
2 bedrooms, 1 bath.

So let's see. Edwards could house 37 families like mine in his palacio. Or assuming he converts it to studios @ 400 sq. ft. that could be up to 148 people in the same living space. But there's no problem becasue there are no homeless in the US right?

The problem is that when a persons life is equated as being worth hundreds of other persons eventually somebody objects with main force. Being a good Christian as all presidential candidates are Edwards would do well to read a little passage about how a rich man enters the kingdom of heaven.

31. I have 6 people living in 800 sq ft.
and I'm in a wheelchair. My husband and I have 1 bedroom, my sister and her husband have the other bedroom and her 2 kids are still small enough to sleep on pallets in the living room. Granted it's tight quarters and we will likely split back up in a few years when the kids get older - but even we know we have more than NECESSITY demands. No one NEEDS indoor plumbing. We do not NEED our own bedroom. -- In fact my 10X10 bedroom is the same size as the tent we used to take camping that sleeps 6. Clearly, what's NECESSARY is in the eye of the beholder.

I left a message in another thread that my 800sq ft home uses more killowatts than my brother's 2700 sq ft brand new house. He installed as much solar as he could afford and in the right weather conditions sells energy back to the power company. He has his wife, 4 adopted kids and his wife's parents living there - Yet I use more energy than he does. Judging the impact on the earth simply by square footage is also clearly a mistake.

My boss lives in a 9400 sq foot McMansion on a lake plus a big stables, tennis courts, indoor heated pool blah blah blah. He built in every sustainable, energy saving thing he could get his hands on. 7 million dollars. He entertains regularly in that house and has pryed over $1 Billion in charity out of the pockets of his visitors. Is he a bad guy for that? Who judges?

39. Ah, the "I live under a lake and eat cold cattail tubers....
for dinner every night post." But it's fine by me that John Edwards has a 30,000 sq. foot mansion and his own private jet while we shiver in our birch-cloth tunics.

Sorry, there's a limited amount of resources on the planet and those who take too much take them directly from those who have little. A poor person who does not resent the wealthy even as they freeze and starve is an idiot.

I'm sorry, but I can't find it in me to get all bent out of shape about John Edwards adding stuff to his house.
He's providing jobs...it's his money, and it's nobody's damn business anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being able to do that sort of thing to my house either, but envy is not a good reason for me to write him off as a candidate.

How many people were employed during the building of this structure? How many people are being employed to help keep it maintained? Some of those employed have children I am sure. Edwards is providing jobs to people who need them and not outsourcing.

Apparently these folks trying to trash Edwards for his 'indulgences' shoot their load the moment they have contact. This sort of thing will settle into obscurity well before the primaries.

Even if these morons insist that this 'puts him out of touch', rational folks can ask them; "Why do you despise those who have pulled themselves up and achieved success? Are you a Communist? Why do you hate America?"

Or is there more?

15. With All Due Respect,
I think you need to take me more lightly. I really am basically always just sittin here crackin up a bit and being lighthearted. :)

That's just the way I express my opinions; bluntly. Why beat around the bush with where I stand, ya know? LOL

But in the spirit of why I posted this, though some might think it worthy of discussion I come from the viewpoint that it isn't, because it just simply isn't any of anyone's business. Figured rather than issuing some long winded cookie cutter rant about it, or talking about 'Master Baiters' (?) or somethin, I'd just post a quick humorous pic of my thoughts. It's all harmless Crispini. :)

16. So, now we see the ANTI-EDWARDS strategy...try to nail him on being successful and rich. Whatever.
Edwards has a right to earn a living and profit from his time and experience. Last time I checked we weren't a socialist republic, so if you don't like it...I suggest moving to France or the like.

The FACT is that Edwards is the ONLY 2008 Candidate to directly address the needs of the poor. He worked at the UNC Southern Poverty Center for godsakes and he launched his candidacy by pointing out the needs of the Katrina victims.

Please slink back to your Hillary opposition corp hole.

I don't understand all the blather either. John Edwards is a self made man, and he deserves to live however he chooses. It should be a shining example and an inspiration to others.... showing them that yes, anyone can come up out of nothing if you are willing to work for, sacrifice for it, and educate yourself for it.

Mr. Edwards, don't listen to the naysayers. You deserve everything you've strived for, worked for and finally obtained. This is a monument to your hard work and success, and your tireless work helping the poor is a testament to the strength of your character.

Live well, and prosper!

Personal information of every little boring detail MUST be reported, categorized, quantified and qualified. Bill Clinton felt up an intern and BY DAM, no other president will ever have that kind of power! Ever!

Instead we just give George some aircraft carriers and soldiers to play with, not like he got a stain on a womans blouse or something! Now this Edwards fella - we need Big Brother cameras all over the house!

58. I'm stunned reading through this thread
I'm never seen DU so petty and catty before. All of the things to focus on, and for some reason Edward's house is a bone of contention?
I guess that since his home is so big that all the good he has done for those less fortunate doesn't really matter. His damn house is too big!

What if he built it 1/3rd the size it is? Would it really make that big of a difference? It doesn't seem like it is blocking the sun from someone else's solar paneled roof, of kicking people out of low income housing.

Just to remind you that there is a war going on, we have a damn fool in the white house, unemployment keeps heading upwards, you name it. But damn it, Edwards house is too big.

Maybe someone will start a pole on how big is the desired size of Edward's house.
