3. Yep. Incredible, eh?
Where I live, a woman was barred from ever owning pets again when she merely failed to take proper care of hers. She wasn't cruel, just incapable of keeping up with the care they required.

6. Animal cruelty laws are lax it seems
If I were the judge, assuming competency of the defendant, I wouldn't have a problem ordering the perp be subject to his own crimes, taste of his own medicine. I have little sympathy for animal abusers. That's not right, is it?

9. A neighbor of mine set fire to a cat....
He was on an upstairs porch. Put some kind of burnable fluid on the cat, put the cat in a styrofoam cooler, set fire to him -- then threw him off the porch in the cooler. The cat survived and was purring when I picked him up and took him to the emergency vet. The vet said he had to be put down because the only reason he wasn't in pain was because his nerve endings had burned off and they would regrow -- but his skin wouldn't and he would be vulnerable to infection.

The punishment to the guy who did it? Nothing, really. I tried to get the prosecutor to charge him with arson in the hope that would at least carry some punishment. The prosecutor told me it wouldn't meet the requirements of the arson law because the cat was a stray, didn't belong to anyone, and the property burned had to belong to someone.

One early moring (about 5 am) I heard a commotion outside my house -- looked out and saw two men beating the manure of the arsonist. He was on the ground, being kicked and pounded. I called 911 to get him some help. After the attackers were done.

That was wrong, wasn't it?

12. That's a horrible story. WTF is with someone who'd do that to a defenselss animal?
I consider myself a peaceful person, but damn, I'm glad the cat's murder mattered to more than a few people, and I'm glad the perp got the **** beat out of him.

What a dispicable, I don't know what to say, I see few punishments for the perp as too harsh.

No, tho, it wasn't wrong of you to wait to call 911 while the jerk got a lesson. Not at all.

This was a hard thing to read, this story. I have little sympathy for this person.

The OP says enough for me.

That "special place in hell" should be about a foot above the coals!

19. Me either.
Hormonal pregnant women should never read stories involving cruelty to animals or children. It will makes us insane.

20. Ditto that
And if there's a reason I still try to believe in heaven and hell it's so I can comfort myself with the belief that there is, indeed, a special place in hell for people like this.

10. Exterminate!
Humans that abuse other humans are bad enough.
This sounds like a cur upon which your back should never be turned.
A few weeks as practice target for security dogs would be appropriate for this one.

13. I just found additional info on the dog...
The perp was from Sherman Oaks. When he brought the dog to the shelter, she also had a fractured skull and was limping, and her snout was tightly wrapped with duct tape. The guy claimed she was vicious, but in her new home she has shown no signs of aggressiveness and is playful.

The judge could have given the guy a year in jail, but didn't.

14. This sadistic bastard
should be closely watched by his local police. Any dirty stinking bastard piece of shit that can do this is also capable of violence towards people. The prick should have got prison time.

18. You are absolutely right. It has been shown that people who
abuse animals often abuse people, too.

Cases in which cruelty to animals is due to a deliberate wish to be cruel (as opposed to neglect), are known as zoosadism, and have been repeatedly linked via research with abuse and cruelty to people (including the more sensationalist examples of torture and killing).

15. Figures. Some very large corporations are killing thousands of pets and the buisness owners aren't
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 05:19 AM by w4rma
even going to get 45 days for it, apparently.

But, it's sure that those owners were able to stall public knowledge long enough to dump their stock onto someone else.

21. What about all the labs where they do horrible things to animals?
Dogs and cats are used as experimental animals.

Some of them even stolen from the owners.

Ever seen an abattoir?

23. It's why I won't criticise hunters
if people saw how our "food" - I deliberately put that in apostrophes - is produced they'd stop piling on hunters. I don't hunt but I'm a hypocritical bastard that will shop at the supermarket instead. Anyway I'd still like ten minutes in an empty room with this monstrous piece of crap. No, make that five minutes.
