Fred Dalton Thompson, "Arthur Branch" on TV's Law & Order, is leading with over 800 votes and 30% of the vote. The voting patterns show a lot more conservatives voting in this than liberals--unless the DUers here decided to vote for Fred as a joke. Newt is tied with Rudy, btw, at 18%.

It disturbs me that so many DUers who don't live in the South and mid-West seem to be writing off Thompson (not you - I believe you live in the South and know to what I'm speaking). They do so at their own peril.

Thompson will get the nomination should he enter the race and he WILL kick our butts if we're not careful and nominate someone who can't cull some white, male Southern and mid-Western votes.

9. Plus he's had television exposure

on Law&Order, as a rather moderate, even sympathetic, character if you are looking for someone who wishes to preserve the peace and tranquility of society. This could be a plus as well. (Though right now, L&O fans are upset because they fear that NBC won't allow any reruns of recent episodes that have FDT in them, if he enters the race-something about a fairness doctrine that I think is not in effect any more)
