Power Planters
Some of our church youth group headed to SC this morning on a Power Plant Mission trip.

No, they are not planting power plants but helping a new church called "The Well" to grow in Greenville/Spartanburg. It currently meets at an area YMCA. Nine churches totaling aprox. 250 people will be staying at Rocky Creek Baptist Church while working in this area but I do not know if all are working with The Well.

I thought it interesting that the church facilities are being augmented with NAMB showers & bathroom trailers. The kids, not so much. :-)

Andrew packed the back of the bus headed to 4-H Camp two weeks ago so he's experienced for this job now. Everyone was told to bring only one suitcase & a backpack but also needed linens so pillows and sleeping bags were stuffed in & under seats also.

Ms. Jeannie brought her cooler. You can always depend on her to make sure food is coming. I believe she is the queen of snacking. Yea, Ms. J! :-)
Lift with your LEGS not your BACK, Bro. Jeff!

Bro. Jeff gathered the group for last minute instructions & prayer.
His 3 Rules:
1. No complaining.
2. No complaining.
3. Be flexible.
>That's Caleb's back in the blue T from 4-H camp 2 weeks ago.
Here's the whole gang. I was surprised that more of the youth were not going but others are attending SLU 101 this week plus the P2 people don't get back until July 3/4 so it may have interfered with some vacation plans.

Bro. Scott (far R) is driving the bus & I expect thinking, "Come on & take the picture so we can hit the road already." I heard Ms. Jeannie suggest they stop somewhere for breakfast too. LOL!

Here's the loaded bus. Bro. Jeff looks like he's proposing a toast.

Yes, that's Caleb in the blue with the Shades. Rachel is next to him. Yes! All 3 are going & with Jacob in KY that means Stan & I are CHILDLESS FOR A FULL WEEK.
Stan is not excited. When they were all at 4-H camp I barely cooked! :-) I'm sure I'll do better this time...
Andrew is seated in front of Rachel with his friend, John.

I expect some of you (Aunt Louise, Mom) are wanting more information about Power Plant. Here is their website.

A brief description:
POWER PLANT
PowerPlant (P2) is a new student missions initiative of the North American Mission Board. At a PowerPlant event, students will be taught evangelism skills and church planting principles. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside church planters in Vacation Bible School, sports camp, evangelism and other ministry teams. This experience is a prepackaged mission trip at a preset per-participant cost. Each project for junior high through college students is one week and all the logistics are handled by NAMB. Groups must complete a pre-project mission study before attending. Project and registration information are available on the Web at www.studentz.com/powerplant.

In the mornings, everyone meets for Power Plant workshops/training/worshipful stuff. In the afternoons some (Andrew plans to do this) go out into the community doing some construction projects & meeting other community needs. I know they will be conducting a day camp at the Center for Community Services (food bank, clothes closet & counseling). Caleb is teaching on the ten commandments one day. Rachel helped plan some crafts. Caleb researched some indoor games options.

Other scheduled activities:
Today:
Travel. They hope to arrive around 2 p.m.
Sunday:
Help set up "church" at the YMCA & worship at The Well.
Maybe a picnic & visit the cool area park.
Monday:
Participate in community-wide publicized (TV?) work-site day at the YMCA - "Give Back to the Y Day"
Tuesday:
"Work" the city sponsored movie night at the park amphitheater by running the kids area & other stuff as needed.
Thursday:
Trailer Park Fun Night. They are bringing some of the church inflatables for this.
Friday:
Depart early so they can go to 6 Flags in Atlanta on the way home.

Thank you for praying for my children & all the other participants in this exciting home missions program. Please pray for safety, energy & cooperation as well as the visible Hand of God moving through their efforts. Please pray for the Mitchell family who is the pastoral family of The Well, whom our group hopes to minister to while there also.

"Please, Lord, keep them all close & clean."

6. What a blog!

An import?

http://37blessings.blogspot.com/2009/01/presidential-assignment.html

Today's newspapers & the TV for it-seems-like forever have been rejoicing over today's "historic event" with the inaguration of a black man. It would be more historic if he were actually an "African American" - descended from slaves rather than being an import. I could actually enjoy the "historic event" if I thought he were a man of character who would bring God's hand of blessing on this nation rather than judgment. I pray that I am wrong & that God will protect His people. PTL God is still on His throne & still answers prayers if we earnestly seek Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Time to get the kids re-focused on the world around them and politics, past awa present.

Compostion assignments for this week are the ones given the the Liberty Writers at our January meeting as homework to be shared with the group at our February meeting:

1. "If I were President of the United States..."
As I said then, "Note that means if you, yourself were president, not if you were the president elect who is being sworn into office" today. I can hear some of them: "I looked into the mirror and realized that my skin was darker! And I was married with kids!"

2. Write a report on a past President of the United States who you know little about.
The group did not sign up for specific presidents so we still may wind up with a number of repeats but hopefully this will challenge students to research their topics rather than writing down everything they remember about Washington, Lincoln or W.

Rachel picked Garfield because she likes the name >think fat orange cat with a 'tude. :-)

Don't bother to teach your kids about Dr. King. And he's an actual African-American, not an import. :eyes:

http://37blessings.blogspot.com/2009/01/mlk-day.html

Overheard a couple of days ago:

"I can't believe there is a holiday for a food group!"

"Huh?"

"Yeah, Dairy Day. No, wait. It's Milk Day on Monday. There's signs everywhere."

"M. L. K? Milk? You are too funny!"

"Whaaaat?"

Disclaimer: I am not related to at least one of the people having the above converstaion.

Oh!!!11!!! Noe!!!11!!!!! Democrats are Nazis!!!!111!!!!!

http://37blessings.blogspot.com/2009/05/pray-for-one-nation-under-god.html

Happy National Day of Prayer!

As I tossed between dreams & "time to wake the children" > this is said in the TV commercial tone "time to make the donuts", running through my mind were hymns! PTL!

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation
O my soul praise Him! for he is thy health & salvation
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near
Join me in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, Who o'er all things so wondrously reigneith
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e'er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

After checking my e's, my heart turned from praise to this country & our great need for Divine intervention.

Pray for the upcoming new Supreme Court Justice. Worldview is so important.
Here's an excellent piece addressing that by Thomas Sowell.

I was forwarded an article blasting the Department of Homeland Security for declaring that conservatives are "rightwing extremists" & warning law enforcement agencies to keep a sharp lookout. Are they worried that we are praying to our God Who is still on His throne & is our Ultimate Authority no matter what idiotic laws are passed?
He is Mighty.
They should be afraid if their agenda is contrary to His plan.

I was sent a political cartoon showing politicians shoveling $ out of a runaway cart and a sign stating:
Plan of Action for U.S.
Spend! Spend! Spend!
Under the guise of recovery
Bust the Government
Blame the capitalists for the failure
Junk the constitution and
Declare a dictatorship

Accompanying the comic was this info:

It seems we've been here before....You might appreciate this cartoon from the Chicago Tribune, 1934. The government actions following the 1929 Crash made the economy worse, not better. The result was a down cycle that probably would have worked out in 3 - 4 years, but became a 10 year depression due to government intervention. Those who fail to heed the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. A review of the economic history of the 1930's demonstrates that Roosevelt 's spending programs failed to turn the economy around. Unemployment temporarily dropped and then rose again in the late thirties to more than 15%. It took World-War II to reverse that trend.

And more than one article (including Sowell's above) has been written comparing the decisions coming out of DC to those leading up to Nazi Germany.

It's the National Day of Prayer,
so pray!
But don't stop tomorrow.

Yep. Obama loves to kill babies. And tax everyone to death. :eyes: Never mind that abortions are always higher under republicans and taxes are lower under Democrats for the non-billionaires. Apparently, reading and using common sense is against God.

http://37blessings.blogspot.com/2009/03/start-protesting.html

It's been said that the only sure things in life are death & taxes. I'm ready to protest both! Here's two email driven protest ideas that use snail mail to deliver.

Not everyone considers abortion to be death (any doctor can tell you that life begins at conception!) or if they do, do not value the life of unborn humans. Truly inhumane.
Would you like to participate in Red Envelope Day, on March 31, 2009?
1. Get a red envelope.
2. On the front, address it to
President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington , D.C. 20500

3. On the back, write the following message:
This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion.
It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world.

4. Mail the envelopes March 31st, 2009. (everyone on the same day).
Tell every one of your friends who you think would send one too. I wish we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died before having a chance to live.

It may seem that those who believe abortion is wrong are in a minority.
It may seem like we have no voice and it's shameful to even bring it up.
Let us show our President and the world that the voices of those of us who do not believe abortion is acceptable are not silent and must be heard.

Barack Obama spoke at a Planned Parenthood Action Fund event, uttering the now infamous line, "Well, the first thing I'd do as president is, is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do.

"An empty red envelope will send a message to President Barack Obama that there is moral outrage in this country over this issue .

Join me in this quiet, but clear message of protest.
Rachel's Bible study class did it.

Now about taxes, I received a longer version of this (yes it's brown for TEA):

There's a storm abrewin'. What happens when good, responsible people keep quiet? Washington has forgotten they work for us. We don't work for them. Throwing good money after bad is NOT the answer.

I am sick of the midnight, closed door sessions to come up with a plan. I am sick of Congress raking CEO's over the coals while they, themselves, have defaulted on their taxes. I am sick of the bailed out companies having lavish vacations and retreats on my dollar. I am sick of being told it is MY responsibility to rescue people that, knowingly, bought more house than they could afford. I am sick of being made to feel it is my patriotic duty to pay MORE taxes.

I, like all of you, am a responsible citizen. I pay my taxes. I live on a budget and I don't ask someone else to carry the burden for poor decisions I may make. I have emailed my congressmen and senators asking them to NOT vote for the stimulus package as it was written without reading it first. No one listened. They voted for it, pork and all.

O.K. folks, here it is. You may think you are just one voice and what you think won't make a difference. Well, yes it will and YES, WE CAN!!

If you are disgusted and angry with the way Washington is handling our taxes. If you are fearful of the fallout from the reckless spending of BILLIONS to bailout and "stimulate"without accountability and responsibility then we need to become ONE, LOUD VOICE THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CITY, TOWN, SUBURB AND HOME IN AMERICA . There is a growing protest to demand that Congress, the President and his cabinet LISTEN to us, the American Citizens. What is being done in Washington is NOT the way to handle the economic free fall.

So, here's the plan.
On April 1, 2009, all Americans are asked to send a TEABAG (TAG) to Washington , D.C. You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire. Just the TEA BAG (TAG). Many cities are organizing protests. If you aren't the 'protester' type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG (TAG). Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way.

This was not my idea. I visited the sites of the 'New American Tea Party' and an online survey showed over 90% of thousands said they would send the teabag on April 1. Why, April 1?? We want them to reach Washington by April 15. Will you do it?

Send it to; 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington , D.C. 20500 .

What will this cost you? A little time and a 40 something cent stamp. What could you receive in benefits? Maybe, just maybe, our elected officials will start to listen to the people. Take out the Pork. Tell us how the money is being spent. We want TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Remember, the money will be spent over the next 4-5 years.
It is not too late to make a difference.

I was told that teabags themselves would cause problems in the mail (& not arrive at their destination) so to send the little tags off of your tea bag strings instead. I have a nice little collection going. :-)

Please join in the protests that represent your beliefs. Stand for your rights as citizens. Pray for God's mercy. I have been praying for Him to defeat the giants in the land. These days, their home town seems to be Washington D.C.
Pray 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My FACE and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
AMEN!

Now to get more stamps...

That must be it. Obama is against our military. Only republicans are soldiers and only republicans respect our military.

http://37blessings.blogspot.com/2008/09/brief-tirade-prayer.html

Thank you, Aunt Louise, for this campaign link.

Dear Mr. Obama

As a military brat who loves America, I approve this message.

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down his life for his friends."

Our military lay down their lives for their family & friends AND for people they don't even know. They stand in the gap for our freedom. In the case of some "Americans", our military lay down their lives for their enemies here. What great love of country and what great sacrifice.

If I Die Before You Wake

Heavenly Father,
Please protect our soldiers. Please comfort their families while they are apart. Please make opportunities for Your people to shine Your light in places missionaries could never go. Please bring them home safely.

Remember Me

Darwin, Planned Parenthood and Hitler's embrace of the perfect race. Wow. This one is just too dumb for words.

http://37blessings.blogspot.com/2008/05/expelled-no-intelligence-allowed.html

<snip>

It had humor: Two evolution proponents attempting to explain how life began:
EP#1 "I just told you it was on the backs of crystals!"
He reminded Stan of this Monty Python skit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teMlv3ripSM
EP#2 "Beings from another planet "seeded" this one." Space Aliens?
Anything to keep from admitting there is some intelligence in the design of the world. It would have been more laughable if they were not in earnest. They truly believe that they and everything that is is an accident rather than the creation of our loving God. How SAD.
And SCARY since they are in charge of EDUCATION.

My kids liked that comic & commentary segments from black & white movies were interspersed with the interviews. I liked the story line: Ben Stein investigates the claims of intolerance toward Intelligent Design Proponents. He asks questions and takes the accusations of each "side" to experts on each "side" as he searches for the answers. I found it interesting that Intelligent Design proponents merely want to point out and apply in science the theory that the world appears to have a design (which to me would logically infer a designer) rather than seeking to Name that Designer (sounds like a game show) which would make the group religious rather than scientific. This is not Creation Science. I still like the fact that they want to open dialogue apart from Darwin.

Only a short clip pointed to the link between Darwin's Theory of Evolution and the founding of Planned Parenthood. Ben spent much more time exploring Hitler's embracing the idea of forming a perfect race. He even visited some death camp sites as well as Darwin's home (now a museum). I found it gripping when Ben stared into the cold, white statue eyes of Darwin as if searching to see if Darwin had any idea how his ideas would be used as a justification to torture and kill so many Jews. As if Ben wanted an explanation or at least an apology.

I liked how Ben compared the ideological wall erected by evolution theory proponents (anything not agreeing with evolution is religion, not science, and cannot be explored, included in scientific data or publications, or used to explain anything) to the Berlin Wall, interspersing clips of Reagan's speech. I'm guessing producers thought that by leaving out the final charge, he was in fact drawing more attention to that challenge. But I wanted to hear it.
"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall."

Evolutionary scientists, what are you afraid of? Why do you want to excommunicate anyone challenging the theory of evolution? Look at all the facts and see what makes the most sense. Exciting things can be accomplished if you will just
tear down that wall.

What is scary is that this is just a prime example of the stupidity we're dealing with every day. These people are seriously dangerous to the progress of our country and our civilization.

8. Thanks for your "snips" from going to the site and your comments
Amazing what some folks out there think about the America they live in and what they are working to accomplish with their lives which seems very different from what some of the rest of us are thinking about these days in dealing with our own.
